The Registered Nurse - Infusion is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position will be per diem, shifts will be Monday-Friday, 10 hour shifts from 7:30am-6pm. This position will be located at the Northwest Clinic in North Seattle, WA. Responsibilities Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc. Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice In addition to primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN), the Infusion RN will have the following key responsibilities: Nursing Care and Assessment Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products Patient and Family Education Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s) Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy Communication and Teamwork Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care Request consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, and or any other supportive care teams when patient's situation indicates Professional Development and Clinic Engagement Participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives Qualifications Required: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and MSL primary state of residence must be updated to WA within 60 days of hire. The Fred Hutch Gastroenterology Service is one of the few gastroenterology consultant practices in the country embedded within a NCI-recognized Comprehensive Cancer Center, with a diverse practice including prevention, diagnosis and endoscopic therapy of GI cancers, comprehensive screening programs for familial GI cancers, evaluation and management of GI and liver diseases arising in patients receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplants, chemo-, radio- and immune-oncology therapies, and consultation for general GI and liver conditions in the Fred Hutch oncology and benign hematology populations. Responsibilities The Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (1.0 FTE) provides care for oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient setting. This individual will be a member of the GI consult service that sees all Fred Hutch patients at the Sloan SLU outpatient ambulatory facility. They will work with the GI physicians and GI clinic nurse. Primary responsibilities include initial evaluation, physical examinations, development of a treatment plan, progress notes, and ongoing follow up of patients on whom a GI consult has been requested, either in person or by telemedicine. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Perform initial consultations for GI referrals for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional and uninvestigated dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation, chronic diarrhea, peptic ulcer disease, uncomplicated hemorrhoids, anal fissures, colorectal cancer screening, MASLD with FIB-4 < 1.3, mildly elevated transaminases, and chronic hepatitis B. Perform initial consultations for referrals requesting GI procedures (colonoscopy, EGD) to assess suitability for moderate vs general sedation and review prep with patient. See return visits to the GI clinic for follow-up after initial consultation. Perform point-of-care Fibroscans in clinic for determination of liver and splenic stiffness in patients with suspected portal hypertension. Perform appropriate physical examination for GI related clinical research trials Identify eligible patients for GI research protocols Attend GI grand rounds at UWMC-Montlake (Fridays 0730-0900), and didactic sessions as scheduled by the Fred Hutch GI consult service. Assist in updating the Fred Hutch GI fellows’ handbook as needed. Qualifications Required: Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program or Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed). Have National Certification as appropriate for profession Must be licensed for schedule II drug authority at time of credentialing. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
