POSITION OVERVIEW

The Registered Nurse (RN) is primarily responsible for providing direct, quality clinical care and serves as a Team Leader to patient care staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of direct care providers to ensure appropriate execution of medications and treatments, documentation, family teaching, care planning and patient care conferencing in compliance with the Health Campus Policies and Procedures.
  • Utilize the nursing process in delivering patient care and ensure continuity of care from admission through discharge and return to family and community.  
  • Visit residents on assigned unit daily to observe and evaluate each resident’s physical and emotional status and notify the charge nurse, the physician, and/or the Director of Nursing when there is a change in a resident’s condition. 
  • Identify resident problems and emergency situations and initiate immediate lifesaving measures in the absence of a physician. 
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain a current, valid state RN license
  • Current, valid CPR certification required

This position is located at CS Mott Children's Hospital. Diagnostic as well as interventional cardiac procedures are performed in the labs and include, but are not limited to, balloon angioplasty, transcatheter valve placements, stenting, biopsies, PICC line placements, hybrid procedures, and electrophysiology studies. Responsibilities* Primary job responsibilities consist of the diverse roles of patient prep, monitoring, circulating (catheter and equipment retrieval) and hemodynamic recording during catheterization procedures on a diverse patient population with known or suspected congenital or acquired cardiac disease. Support of Clinical Operations Participates in planning and problem-solving of daily unit operations and priorities of patient services. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit goals and objectives. Manages, directly and in collaboration with others, staffing, scheduling, benchmarking, work redesign and variances. Organizes and facilitates unit based educational activities and in-services. Assures compliance with regulatory programs' standards related to the nursing. Provides leadership, assists and advises Administrators, Medical Directors, in satisfying other regulatory standards. Interprets and implements University and Health System policies and procedures. Assists in the planning and implementation of new or expanded services and programs. Provides interface and liaison communications regarding programs external to the unit which have implications for nursing staff. Represents nursing, Ambulatory Care Services and/or the clinical department(s) or unit(s) on assigned committees Quality Management and Research Participates in and conducts the analysis of data, assists in the development of strategies to improve care management within the area or unit. Participates in and supports the involvement of nursing staff in patient (HEDIS, paid for performance) and ACU quality improvement metrics/activities. Provides leadership to staff in understanding and applying quality improvement principles and adoption of evidence-based changes in practice into daily work. Promotes the integration of research findings into clinical practice. Supports research activities on the unit, as indicated. Works closely with each team to define and measure productivity, holding teams accountable to expectations, and ensuring work performed is within their scope of practice. Professional Development and Education Facilitates the education of health sciences students. Develops self professionally through continuing education, professional reading, participation in professional organizations and networking. Evaluates own performance periodically with the Senior Nursing Director. Required Qualifications* Applicant Must Meet One Of The Following Bachelors of Science in Nursing OR Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan. Minimum of five (5) years RN experience Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) of reasonable progressively responsible clinical experience in an adult specialties service line. Minimum of one (1) year ambulatory experience in the last 5 years strongly desired. Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills/judgment to a variety of situations. Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC).
