Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient Team Lead

Shift Details:   Full-time night shift, 40 hours per week.   Two 8-hour weeknight shifts (7:00 pm - 3:00 am or 11:00 pm - 7:00 am) and two 12-hour weeknight shifts (7:00 pm - 7:00 am).   No weekends or holidays and full benefits are included!

OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement.   Other services include an urgent care, clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy. 

General Statement of Duties:

The Registered Nurse Team Lead Inpatient coordinates the activities of nursing and non-nursing personnel, while working under the direction of the Clinical Manager and Director of Inpatient Service. The Team Lead assists with procedures, treatments, and nursing care as needed.

Essential Duties:

  1. Directs and assists Inpatient personnel. Recommends ways for staff to use down time productively. Assists in problem resolution and helping personnel to understand available resources. Places patient wellbeing over unit routine or personal preferences. Recognizes the need for changes in patient assignment and implements changes in a timely manner. Informs management when problems in staffing arise. Coordinates breaks and lunches while providing adequate patient coverage in staff absence. Creates schedules for all staff and identifies and notifies staff of any changes.
  2. Maintains knowledge of hospital policies and ensures staff compliance with all policies and procedures.
  3. Maintains effective communication between management and personnel.
  4. Monitors overall patient acuity level on the unit and reports any unusual occurrences or circumstances to appropriate manager or healthcare worker.
  5. Participates in annual and ongoing training, education, and development activities to improve knowledge and skills. Attends leadership specific learning opportunities to enhance skills. Maintains knowledge of equipment and supplies.
  6. Assists with orientation and training. Provides input into the evaluation of staff with reference to their improvement in techniques or performance.
  7. Monitors inventory of supplies, medications, and equipment, and reports insufficiencies to the appropriate manager.
  8. Support patient education and discharge planning. Distributes education materials as appropriate. Completes assigned tasks that facilitate discharge planning.
  9. Retrieves and submits data for quality assurance and risk management and other compliance needs as requested.
  10. Completes treatments and procedures as ordered or indicated. Provides care related to personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and comfort measures as indicated. Prepares and administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Documents all patient care activities in accordance with the standard of care as well as changes in the patient’s condition. Performs patient assessment through observation and communicates pertinent patient information and data to appropriate care providers in a timely manner. Requires constant mental alertness to observe signs and symptoms of patient conditions and side effects of medications or technical procedures and respond appropriately to ensure optimal patient care.
  11. Participates in service recovery.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; either from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • 2-4 years of related Registered Nurse experience required, 4-6 years of experience preferred
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred

General Statement of Duties: The Registered Nurse Surgery provides nursing care and services in the operating room; assisting the physician and scrub staff during surgical procedures, including circulating duties, and directing non-professional personnel. Surgery Registered Nurse duties include, but are not limited to positioning the patient, assisting anesthesia during induction, prepping the patient, opening sterile packages, documentation, operating equipment and obtaining necessary supplies. Essential Duties: Prepares setup, materials, medications, and equipment for cases as needed and assists surgeons in all types of procedures as required. Preps the surgical site using aseptic technique. Maintains operating room and equipment in a functional manner. Prepares, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment, and instrumentation required for the care of patients. Monitors overall patient care and reports any unusual occurrence, circumstances, or discrepancies to the supervisor. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality of care. Performs sponge, needle, and sharp counts according to policy and procedure. Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens. Maintains inventory control of supplies and medications, including appropriate records and documentation. Reviews and verifies patient information, identification, and chart forms. Supervises and teaches members of the surgical team. Confines and contains sources of contaminations. Reviews and revises surgeon’s preference cards and communicates changes to appropriate personnel. Performs and records the order of Physician’s including administration of medications. Assists with patient care in the pre and post-operative areas as needed.
