CNA Nursing Technician - PPOP PACU

OrthoIndy Hospital South, located in Greenwood, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with four operating rooms and a 15-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, imaging and physical therapy. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Nursing Technician PPOP PACU works under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), preforming a variety of tasks delegated by the RN in order to care for patients. The Nursing Technician completes assigned tasks and reports information about patients to the RN. The Nursing Technician assists with obtaining vitals, and other taught skills as trained by OrthoIndy. Essential Duties: Obtains and reports vital signs and fluid intake and output. Discontinues IV lines and urinary catheters as directed by the Registered Nurse and documents removal. Observes and reports patient conditions and behaviors to the Registered Nurse. Assists in the cleaning of equipment, furniture, and surfaces using appropriate aseptic technique and returns equipment to appropriate areas as needed. Restocks linens and supplies on the unit. Orders linen, café items for patient care. Performs phlebotomy as directed by the Registered Nurse. Performs Urine Pregnancy Tests, and blood sugars for patients as directed by Registered Nurses. Provides skin care as directed by the Registered Nurse. Reinforces patients and family education as directed by the Registered Nurse. Performs EKGs and bladder scans when directed by the Registered Nurse. Transports patients to other units, upon dismissal, and as necessary. Performs Cast Cutting, Ted Hose measurement and application. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; specialty training beyond high school preferred Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and 1-2 years of patient care experience required; OR Nursing student with one semester of completed clinical rotations required; OR a minimum of 1-2 years direct patient care experience within a hospital setting and ability to earn CNA certification within six months of start date. General Statement of Duties: The Registered Nurse PPOP PACU provides nursing care and service during the preoperative and postoperative periods, integrating and making nursing judgments pertaining to the patient’s condition on a routine and emergency basis. The position oversees the supervision of all non-licensed personnel, while also receiving direction from Physicians. Essential Duties: Monitors and assesses patient condition and reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to manager and appropriate Physicians. Completes treatments and procedures as ordered and assigned by the Physician, consistent with patient complexity and commensurate with the skill, knowledge, and training of the individual. Provides care safely, with adequate quality, quantity, and timeliness and according to applicable standards. Admits patients to all areas within pre and post-operative and post-anesthesia services, and receives and reviews pre post-operative report. Sets-up, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients. Reviews and initiates Physician’s orders, administers medication, parenteral fluids and treatment as needed. Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed. Distributes educational material as appropriate. Maintains medication and nursing documentation within the patient record. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and development levels of patients served. Requirements: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program 2-4 years Registered Nurse experience in any of the following units required; PACU, ICU or ER. 4-6 years of experience preferred Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required BLS, ACLS certification required; PALS preferred OrthoIndy is an Equal Opportunity Employer

Supervises and teaches members of the surgical team. Confines and contains sources of contaminations. Reviews and revises surgeon’s preference cards and communicates changes to appropriate personnel. Performs and records the order of Physician’s including administration of medications. Assists with patient care in the pre and post-operative areas as needed.
