Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic Health System Minnesota is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Medical Oncology practice. This position is based in Albert Lea with planned outreach care to Owatonna. The Minnesota Medical Oncology practice is a physician-led team of board-certified Hematology and Oncology physicians working in collaboration with multiple specialties including Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Radiology, and Pathology. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of cancer care professionals focused on diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of various types of cancer. Weekly tumor boards and clinical research trials are part of the practice. This position requires direct patient care and telemedicine services.  


The NP/PA in collaboration with Medical Oncologists and a care team consisting of RNs, LPNs, Social Services, Nutrition Services, Pharmacy, and other ancillary support staff provide clinical care to cancer patients at various stages of treatment and recovery.


Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Obtain Hematology/Oncology specific histories and physicals.
  • Order, interpret, diagnose, and communicate diagnostic results to patients and care team members.
  • Devise and implement treatment care plans.
  • Facilitate and deliver patient education regarding Hematology/Oncology conditions.
  • Provide Hematology/Oncology follow-up care.
  • Clinical time will be in the outpatient setting, and may provide infusion center support

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current MN RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP or ACNP.


Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice.  


Additional Qualifications:

  • Active BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required

Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team in Breast Medical Oncology. This department seeks to improve the survival of breast cancer patients, provide new knowledge through research, patient-centered clinical care, cancer prevention, and education and outreach with the ultimate goal of eliminating breast cancer. The ideal candidate will be a licensed APRN or PA with at least 2+ years of clinical experience. They will bring a strong background in Oncology, demonstrating both technical expertise and compassionate patient care. Key Functions Patient Assessment/Intervention/Evaluation/Performance of Diagnostic/Therapeutic Procedures Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs. Conduct health assessment including the medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment. Conduct inpatient service daily rounds on each patient and report findings to the attending physician. Monitor and review findings of laboratory, clinical, radiographic, and procedural data on ambulatory or inpatient service and develop appropriate plan of care. Prevents, minimizes, and manages symptoms, toxicities, health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel. Schedules consultation, diagnostic procedures, and facilitates coordination with the attending physician. Writes prescriptions (if eligible) as needed. Provides triage in ambulatory setting for consistent patient care. Writes chemotherapy orders under the supervision of a physician or verifies orders written by physician. Educator/Consultant/Research/Non-Essential Provides general health education to the patient and his/her family. Participates in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals. Keeps current by attending continuing education programs related to the clinical area. Assists in development of education material for use by staff or patient. Attends departmental meetings pertinent to the Advanced Practice Provider. Contributes to research efforts of the department in accrual to protocols or trials. EDUCATION Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
