Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor, AKA Associate Clinical Manager (ACM), provides frontline clinical and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care. Through direct clinical care and support, visible leadership presence, and active supervision of team members, the ACM drives excellence in care delivery, workforce performance, and patient/family experience while upholding regulatory and organizational standards.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) on Anschutz campus at Children's Hospital Colorado offers state-of-the-art recovery and monitoring for acutely-ill cardiac patients and those recovering from heart surgery. With the largest pediatric heart surgery program in the region, we perform more than 500 heart surgeries per year. Our highly specialized providers take on the most complex heart problems and achieve some of the best outcomes in the nation. The CICU team cares for patients across their entire lifespan and some of the subspecialty populations we commonly treat are: Maternal/Fetal, congenital heart disease, adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), heart transplant, cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension and single ventricle patients. We offer care modalities that include Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and advanced pulmonary support. The CICU is served by an interdisciplinary team of highly specialized and trained team members including cardiac intensivists, bachelor’s prepared intensive care nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, feeding specialists, social workers and education specialists that work closely with the heart surgeons, anesthesiologists and other caregivers. The training we offer our CICU team is diverse and emphasizes communication, teamwork, and critical thinking in addition to highly specialized clinical skills. We promote continued education and encourage team members to pursue specialty certifications. Department Name: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

Job Status: full time, 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits

Shift: rotating days/nights. Weekend and holiday coverage required in accordance with department operations and clinical need. This position is a mix of clinical and administrative time, with a minimum of 40% of time spent at the bedside or serving in the charge or resource role.

This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical leadership and management, oversees operations, and directs staffing support to ensure high-quality patient care, including serving in charge or other clinical roles, demonstrating clinical expertise, and reinforcing professional standards and competencies.
  • Maintains leader visibility through rounding with patients, families, and team members to assess care delivery, ensure timely resolution of identified issues, promote positive experiences, and recognize best practices.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines, in alignment with evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Ensures safe, efficient patient flow and resource utilization.
  • Creates and manages staffing and scheduling resources to meet patient, operational, and departmental needs, adjusting resources as conditions change.
  • Supports interviewing and hiring decisions, and oversees onboarding and training activities, providing input and recommendations in collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Develops, coaches, mentors, and directly supervises team members, including directing their work, supporting performance expectations and professional growth, handling employee complaints and grievances, conducting performance reviews, corrective action and discipline, and recommending termination decisions, where needed.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance clinical practice, operations, and patient outcomes.
  • Monitors departmental resources and expenditures and assists with meeting targets for productivity, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Provides direct clinical care and support, visible leadership presence, and active supervision of team members.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Master’s degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE – Three years of clinical experience. Pediatric cardiac intensive care experience strongly preferred.

LICENSURE – Registered Nurse (RN)

CERTIFICATION(S) – BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. ANCC recognized certification in clinical specialty. Depending on the unit/department, employees may also be required to have a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Adult Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $108,198.40 to $162,297.60

In this role, the Administrator ensures assigned Hospice location delivers outstanding service, while upholding the company’s mission, vision and values. Essential Functions Provides leadership for a mid-sized hospice program, accountable for clinical quality, operational performance, and balanced, sustainable census growth. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence through focusing on quality care and/or service. Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles in day-to-day activities. Promotes and monitors compliance with requirements and standards established by accrediting or licensing agencies, regulatory agencies and state or federal law relevant to areas of responsibility. Uses statistical and qualitative information to manage quality. Requires employees to exhibit technical knowledge and effective skill education related to their job. Ensures policies and procedures are followed. Accepts responsibility for remaining current in the latest trends, developments and technologies relative to area of work by: Actively pursuing self-development, attending in-services, and circulating relevant information to appropriate employees. Develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Governing Body, that guide and support the provision of services. Manages Human Resources effectively. Shows consistency between words and actions. Promotes positive communicationsand keeps employees informed of changes by ensuring meetings with appropriate staff are conducted and documented. Is available to employees when issues arise. Promotes/provides for core orientation plus location and job specific orientation, in service training and continuing education for employees, volunteers and contract personnel. Conducts educational programs for outside agencies as deemed necessary. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide services. Responsible for the selection, supervision, and evaluation of interdisciplinary team members. Collaborates with the Governing Body, Corporate leadership and employees to establish goals and standards for performance; reviews and monitors progress regularly and redirects efforts where goals are not being met. Determines qualifications and competence of employees. Completes all performance evaluations prior to due date. Takes appropriate and timely action in disciplinary situations; documents actions taken in accordance with policy. Makes appropriate assignments among employees in accordance with their personal abilities and limitations; ensures fair and consistent workload distribution. Manages Office Operations effectively. Directs the multiple teams of the assigned location, if applicable. Plans and organizes tasks and resources to achieve strategic goals and objectives. Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize, establish and deal with priorities. Measures progress toward set goals; takes corrective action on projects, as appropriate. Considers the impact of department/location/provider decisions on the overall functioning of the company and its hospice affiliates. Reviews and analyzes facts of a situation when developing a plan of action; considers all relevant information to make the most informed decision possible. Achieves predetermined objectives and goals. Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services. Ensures contract management is maintained for services from outside vendors/providers. Assesses and improves branch/department performance as well as individual team's performance. Ensures documentation of services is accurate and timely. Monitors and supervises quality of patients' care of assigned location(s). Processes emergency calls and requests for assistance. Assists with problem solving for patients in all settings. Prepares, monitors, and reviews monthly bills, supply costs, expense requests, mileage reimbursement, payroll and other expenses. Makes recommendations for service area regarding market opportunities for new programs or service. Ensures accuracy of marketing materials, public information materials and activities. Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, customers and employees. Investigates and completes detailed reports of any incidents/accidents, grievances, complaints, medication errors and other problems within the time frames established by policy, and implements corrective and/or preventive action immediately. Works with physicians, patients, families, staff and others regarding problems, needs and concerns. Responsible for supervision and evaluation of family satisfaction surveys. Incorporates safety topics into staff meetings. Regularly reviews safety policies and procedures (to include the Emergency Preparedness Plan); ensures that all employees are oriented to and understand their role in safety policies and procedures. Manages Financial Resources prudently and effectively. Completes financial reviews on recommended schedule. Budget worksheets are completed and submitted by scheduled deadlines. Annual expenditures are within annual budget except where variances are volume driven and have been approved. Resource needs are anticipated and budgets are planned to meet those needs within known parameters. Budget variances are justified on a regularly scheduled basis. Continually seeks ways to reduce costs without affecting quality. Controls use of overtime and temporary personnel except when justified by increased volume or decreased staffing levels. Recommends space and other resources for needed services. May be asked to perform routine visits to patient homes or institutional setting and/or participate in on-call schedule. Education: Registered Nurse with minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing required Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred. Experience: Three to five years’ healthcare sales/ management experience preferred. Minimum one year management/supervisory experience required. Two or more years’ experience in hospice/home care required Meets all state-specific requirements for the Administrator role. Three years’ experience in direct patient care in a clinical setting preferred. Strong understanding of hospice regulations, compliance, and Medicare conditions of participation Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and interdisciplinary operations . Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills Commitment to high-quality, compassionate care for patients and families.
