Physicians Surgery Center of Tidewater is seeking a Full-Time Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team. We are a busy multispecialty ambulatory surgery center serving the Virginia Beach community and are an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International (USPI). At USPI, our mission is to care for each patient and their family as if they were our own—each patient, each family, each and every time.

Physicians Surgery Center of Tidewater provides surgical services in the following specialties:

· Neurosurgery

· Ophthalmology

· Orthopedic Surgery

· Pain Management

· Plastic Surgery

· Podiatry

· Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for all departmental functions in support of USPI's mission, vision, and facility goals. This position establishes effective working relationships with patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors. The Certified Surgical Technologist scrubs surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while working with leadership to meet facility safety, quality, customer service, and financial goals.

Qualifications:

· Education: High school graduate or equivalent

· Experience: Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred

· Certifications: CST current certification; BLS required

· Good command of the English language, both verbal and written

· Positive attitude and willingness to learn

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient

· Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation

· Independent decision-making skills - ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions of the patient when needed

· Excellent customer service skills - must be an excellent team player and can communicate with patients, employees, and medical staff

· Advocate of patient safety and quality of care

Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting the RN and surgeon during operative procedures. The Surgical Technician assists with cases of various degrees of complexity. This role may require the ability to work flexible shifts and be on call to help fulfill 24/7 operations. Reports to the Operating Room Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Arranges and inventories sterile set up utilizing knowledge of asepsis and sterilization techniques. Assists in preparing and moving of patients, cleaning and room set up. Provides a safe and efficient environment for the surgical patient under the direction of the registered nurse within a defined scope of practice. Performs other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Certification in operating room technology or surgical technology through the National Association of Operating Room Technicians required. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology, operating room technology or a school of practical nursing or equivalent program required. Basic knowledge to perform arithmetic calculations when maintaining record of charges normally acquired through completion of high school. Approximately three to six months of related experience, preferred, in order to learn sterile techniques, become familiar with anesthesia equipment and cleaning procedures, and learn inventory techniques.
