Multi Specialty Critical Care Unit:

Multi-Specialty Critical Care (MSCC) is a 13 bed critical care unit that provides care for a medically complex patient population. Gastrointestinal bleeds, overdoses, diabetic keto acidosis, respiratory failure, renal failure, and drug/alcohol withdrawal are examples of the more common diagnoses seen on this unit. Many of the patients of MSCC have comorbidities that complicate their course of treatment, which causes the nursing team to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible care and support.

 

NCC is a 33-bed unit with a widely diverse neurosurgical, neurotrauma, neuroradiology, and medical neurological patient population, and is one of the largest neurocritical care units in the country.  NCC staff care for some of the highest acuity neuro patients in the state and has the highest number of patient days in all the IUH Adult Academic Health Center. Dedication to excellence and quality care measures are of utmost importance to NCC staff and multi-disciplinary teams as evidenced by exceptional quality data. The NCC team embraces teamwork, the complexity of their patients, and advocates relentlessly for the best possible outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Job Summary Medical/Surgical/Telemetry nursing is the core of adult inpatient nursing care and this group of nurses is multi-talented. The Registered Nurse in the Medical and Post-Surgical Units at Riverview Health provides direct nursing care to patients with acute or service specialty diagnoses such as Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Urology, Renal, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, inpatient Hospice care. Nurses on this unit may also be assigned post-operative surgical orthopedic, abdominal, general surgery, ENT, and gynecology patients. A hospitalist team is available 24/7 to answer questions, teach and support the nursing team. Medical and Surgical Nurse Navigators act as liaison with providers, in a team-oriented, patient-focused environment. Job Responsibilities Creates, and implements, a written plan of care that addresses the specific needs and goals of each individual patient, making referrals to other professional services as required. Modifies the plan of care based on reassessment of the patient including observed patient response to treatment/care and evaluation of patient's progress toward goal completion and delegates tasks to team members, as appropriate within their scope of practice. Observes, documents, addresses, and implements planned interventions/care, communicating the plan to all members of the team through accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and, when needed, through verbal reports.
