The Nurse Manager provides daily leadership, supervision, and clinical oversight to ensure residents receive safe, high-quality, person-centered care. This working-manager role oversees staffing, workflow, and clinical operations while supporting nursing staff through guidance, education, and direct involvement in care as needed. The Nurse Manager responds to changes in resident condition, leads investigations and follow-up on incidents, and promotes consistent adherence to facility policies, regulatory standards, and best nursing practices. The role serves as a key resource for residents, families, and interdisciplinary partners, fostering a positive and professional environment focused on safety, service excellence, and continuous quality improvement .
• Provide daily supervision, leadership, and clinical oversight to ensure delivery of high-quality, person-centered resident care across all shifts.
• Monitor workflow, staffing levels, and unit operations, adjust assignments, and provide direct assistance when staffing levels require additional support.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs; provide education, competency checks, and ongoing mentoring to ensure adherence to facility policies, procedures, and professional standards.
• Oversee clinical assessments and response to resident conditions, including falls, changes in condition, potential abuse or neglect concerns, missing items, and other critical situations; ensure timely documentation, communication, and follow-up.
• Initiate, update, and contribute to interdisciplinary care plans, collaborate with the MDS Coordinator, and ensure accurate clinical documentation to support quality outcomes and regulatory compliance.
• Lead and participate in resident and family interactions, address concerns, grievances, and questions, promote positive outcomes, and foster a welcoming, resident-centered environment.
• Ensure staff compliance with all facility policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, infection prevention protocols, and safety practices; provide correction and retraining when appropriate.
• Coordinate scheduling and daily replacement of staff, ensure adequate coverage on all units, and review timecards and staffing patterns for accuracy and efficiency.
• Conduct audits, survey readiness, and quality reviews, including quarterly and PRN audits of care plans, medication carts, documentation, and clinical practices, and implement corrective action as needed.
• Lead or participate in required emergency preparedness activities, including quarterly CPR and elopement drills, fire drills, and response evaluations.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Dietary, Housekeeping, and other departments to resolve environmental, equipment, or operational concerns affecting resident care or safety.
• Participate in investigations of incidents, accidents, or complaints, ensure accurate reporting, follow-up action, and communication with supervisory and administrative staff.
• Support new employee onboarding, provide orientation, mentoring, and skills validation for nursing staff.
• Complete timely employee performance evaluations, provide feedback, and recommend disciplinary action, promotion, or performance improvement as needed.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model, promote teamwork, professionalism, and a strong customer service culture throughout the facility.
• Perform other duties as necessary to support high-quality resident care and nursing department operations.
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing (Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
Three (3) years of nursing experience in all phases of nursing service responsibilities with two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin required and maintained in good standing.
CPR and First Aid certification.
• Work is performed primarily in a skilled nursing facility with regular exposure to residents, staff activity, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and bodily fluids.
• Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching throughout the shift.
• Must be able to lift, move, and reposition residents and equipment up to 50 pounds independently, and more with assistance or mechanical lift devices.
• Requires the ability to respond rapidly to resident care needs, emergency situations, and safety concerns.
• Visual and auditory acuity required to monitor resident conditions, identify changes, and accurately complete documentation.
• Work involves significant exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and other occupational health hazards; the risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure is considered high, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used at all times.
• May be exposed to varying temperatures, odors, and noise levels in resident areas and common spaces.
• Requires manual dexterity for operation of medical equipment, handling supplies, and documenting in electronic and paper health record systems.
