Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist patient to bathroom, provide nourishment, assist with dressing and discharging patient via wheelchair
  • Cleaning & decontamination patient care items
  • Escort family members to recovery area
  • Demonstrates and uses knowledge of safety measures.
  • Care and Maintenance of Equipment
  • Checks & records refrigerator temperatures.
  • Assists with inventory of all supplies and equipment
  • Keeps an accurate inventory of all supplies and assist with ordering
  • Maintains stock levels of all supplies in the Recovery Rooms
  • Assists with trash, linen and biohazardous waste collection at the end of the day
  • Assists the Endoscopy technicians in decontam under the direct supervision of the Endoscopy Technicians.
  • Assist with front end duties
  • Monitor expiration dates of equipment, GFI testing, emergency light testing, etc. monthly.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service classes on regularly scheduled days.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a clinical setting; orthopedic or surgical specialty experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with orthopedic-specific EMR systems (e.g., Athenahealth, NextGen, Epic).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, procedures, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, etc.) is a plus.
