Staff Nurse I- Student Health Clinic

The Registered Nurse I provides comprehensive nursing care, assists physicians with patient treatment and minor procedures, coordinates clinical operations, and delivers patient education to promote positive health outcomes. This role is responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, responding to emergencies, maintaining medical records, scheduling appointments, and ensuring the clinic is properly stocked and operating efficiently. Position Summary:

Provides assistance to medical doctors. Assesses, develops, and implements, and evaluates a plan of nursing care for patients in an assigned area.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Assists doctors in the delivery of patient care in order to ensure quality service.
  • Ensures the efficient operation of the clinic or unit by proper scheduling and planning for optimum use of staff and facilities.
  • Assists doctors with routine office/surgical procedures performed under anesthesia, interviews new patients, takes blood pressure readings, records vital statistics, and administers drugs and treatment.
  • Provides patient education and counseling on issues such as pre-op and post-op care.
  • Makes decisions based on experience and training as to whether emergency situations exist. May administer CPR and/or other first aid measures.
  • Exercises judgment in matters involving referral of patients to agencies or health care professionals for other services where indicated.
  • Coordinates upkeep of patient charts, types reports, makes telephone calls and schedules appointments for patient visits and payment collection. May be responsible for compiling daily or monthly reports.
  • Schedules operations at hospitals including admissions procedures, use of operating room, x-rays, lab requirements, and special test for patients.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions of new equipment and follows up on delivery. Stocks and maintains necessary medical and clerical supplies for the clinic. Keeps equipment in sterile and working order for physicians.
  • May provide direction to other clinical personnel to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
  • Demonstrates various procedures and techniques to LVNs in order to ensure delivery of proper patient care.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • None
  • Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school required Associate's Degree in nursing or diploma from an accredited nursing school required

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Job Summary and Qualifications The RN in the Cardiac Cath Lab is responsible for performing either scrubbing duties, documentation of the procedure on the hemodynamic system, and circulating for diagnostic or interventional cardiology/radiology procedures. Responsibilities also include assessing the needs of the patient, providing age specific patient care based on assessment data, current knowledge/skills which include policies and procedures of the department and physician orders. Accepts assignments that coincide with her/his experience, knowledge, and ability. What you will do in this role: May perform scrubbing duties for diagnostic/interventional cardiology and radiology procedures. Assesses and reassesses the patient to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual, age specific needs, and disease process. Provides age specific patient care according to the assessment data, departmental policies and procedures and physician orders. Evaluates the patient’s response to interventions. Documents assessment data, patient care, interventions, and evaluations in the medical record. Documents drug procedure and equipment data required for generating patient billing information and for departmental inventory control. Participates in multidisciplinary discharge planning. Ensures a safe environment for the patient. Participates in teaching the patient and family. Quality assurance and Core Measures for Cath Lab. Completes continuing education and in-service training in order to maintain current knowledge or skills to perform job responsibilities. Category I exposure are tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluids. Therefore, personal protective equipment is required. What qualifications you will need: Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date) Current BLS and ACLS issued from American Heart Association required 1 year of clinical Cath Lab experience as a licensed RN in an acute care setting.
