Overview

This is a full-time position for a Medical Assistant responsible for providing outpatient nursing care to include triaging patients, taking vitals, stocking exam rooms and calling patients with lab/test results and occasionally scheduling appointments, as well as, assisting with team tasks and paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews list of patients coming in for next day’s appointments and obtains any missing clinical information prior to the visit.

  • Phone triage and assist in calling patients & pharmacies to relay prescription, advice or instructions for the providers.
  • Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature and blood pressure, records in electronic health record.
  • Chaperones and assists providers and nurses as requested.
  • Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms, cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Stock examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventory and submit reorder requests to office manager.
  • Check and follow-up on EPIC In-Basket tasks daily.
  • Triage patients based on weekly floor schedule for Providers & Nurses as well as fill in on assignments during staff absences.
  • Give ordered injections under the supervision of the nursing staff.
  • Will travel to other department of medicine practices to provide support when needed.
  • Perform departmental employee respirator fit testing and coordinate with Environmental Services.

  • Answer incoming telephone calls and facilitate patient needs as appropriate. Also responsible for taking messages in the electronic health record, paging doctors when appropriate and answering inquiries.

  • Schedule patient appointments when needed

  • Check-in and check-out patients, obtain and scan referrals when needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Medical Assistant certification. 

  • BLS Certified.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with public, partners, customers, and co-workers; while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals.

  • Ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met. Meets attendance/punctuality requirements.

  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs. Takes independent action to address and resolve problems.

  • Ability to expresses ideas effectively and demonstrate sound judgment with regard to decision-making.

  • Ability to deal with others in a direct honest manner and comply with all EVMS policies and procedure.

Medical Assistant, Lead

Overview The Lead Medical Assistant (Lead MA) in the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery Division provides advanced clinical and administrative support while serving as a leader and resource for medical assistant staff. This role ensures efficient clinic operations, promotes high-quality patient care, and supports departmental goals through coordination, training, and collaboration. The Lead MA functions both as a clinical expert and as a liaison between providers, staff, and leadership to enhance workflow, patient satisfaction, and operational excellence. Responsibilities Leadership, Training, and Operational Oversight – 35% Participate in the implementation of Department and EVMS Medical Group policies and procedures.
