POSITION SUMMARY

Cameron Health is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse. This position provides timely assessment and prioritization of patients presenting to the Emergency Department while promoting patient safety, efficient throughput, and effective communication among the emergency care team. This position requires flexibility in job duties as assigned such as dedicated Triage Nurse or bedside nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of accredited professional nursing program, BSN preferred

• Current RN license in Indiana

  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required
  • BLS-Healthcare Provider (Basic Life Support) within 3 months of hire date
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 3 months of hire date

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform timely initial assessments and triage of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Assign appropriate acuity levels according to the department's approved triage process.
  • Identify patients requiring immediate intervention and promptly communicate concerns to the Charge RN and emergency provider.
  • Communicate with the Charge RN regarding patient acuity, department capacity, and appropriate bed assignments.
  • Continuously reassess patients remaining in the waiting area and recognize changes in condition.
  • Initiate approved nursing protocols and standing orders when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of triage assessments and reassessments.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow from arrival through placement in the Emergency Department.
  • Communicate delays and pertinent updates to patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Collaborate closely with the Charge RN, bedside nurses, providers, registration staff, and ancillary departments.
  • Assist with department quality audits, chart reviews, and other assigned quality-improvement activities during periods of lower patient census.
  • Maintain awareness of overall Emergency Department census and acuity.
  • Assume a patient care assignment when department needs, census, or acuity require additional bedside nursing support.
  • Assist with emergency situations and other patient-care needs throughout the department as necessary.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE

The successful RN will be an experienced emergency nurse who is confident working independently, demonstrates strong clinical judgment, communicates effectively, and understands the critical role triage plays in patient safety and Emergency Department throughput. This position requires flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to support the overall needs of the department as patient volumes and acuity change throughout the shift.
