Job Summary: Under direct physician supervision, assists providers, nurses and allied health personnel in delivering comprehensive, high quality patient care to Kaiser Permanente members. Essential Responsibilities: Assists the physician in providing comprehensive medical care to targeted patient population in the ambulatory clinic setting by: Preparing the patient for the medical examination. Performing rooming-in, screening activities and patient histories for the appropriate to patient population. Performing assigned clinical tasks and/or procedures. Set up patient for virtual visit in clinic. Turnover room following patient visit. Serve as chaperone for exams if requested by patient. Assisting with scheduling follow-up appointments and activities as recommended by the physician. Performs clinical tasks and/or procedures appropriate to targeted patient population under the delegation and supervision of a licensed physician. Immediately notifies physician or other licensed health care provider of patients observed to be in distress. Documents all care given and actions taken on behalf of the patient in KP HealthConnect. Facilitates smooth and efficient operation of the clinical department by monitoring the flow of patients and intervening as appropriate to minimize wait times and promote a positive experience for the patient. Assists with inventory and requisition of required supplies; keeps exam and procedure rooms adequately stocked at all times. Engages in positive interactions with Kaiser Permanente members, visitors and fellow staff members at all times. Monitor and manage refrigerated medications under the supervision of the practicing physician. Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements. Administers medications per KP policy and using the 5 rights of medication administration. Performs basic diagnostic and laboratory tests and specimen collection per KP policy and CLIA regulations. Assist with routine patient education and self-care instructions as directed by providers. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position works closely with providers to deliver high-quality care while ensuring efficient patient flow and a positive, welcoming experience for every patient. Key Responsibilities Register patients and collect necessary demographic, insurance, and eligibility information Process co-pays and assist with scheduling Prepare patients for examination by obtaining medical history and documenting accurately in the medical record Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, EKG, pregnancy testing) and report results to providers Draw blood and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis Prepare, clean, and stock exam rooms; monitor inventory levels Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the medical record system Support front desk responsibilities, including phone management and patient communication Conduct patient follow-up calls as needed Complete opening and closing duties, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation Perform equipment checks, quality control, and troubleshooting as needed Follow all clinical, safety, and organizational policies and procedures Perform additional duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent ( required ) Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience ( required ) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification ( required at time of hire ) Must be obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Preferred Qualifications Graduate of a Medical Assisting program Experience in urgent care, emergency department, or hospital setting Prior experience with patient registration or front desk responsibilities Certification Requirements Candidates with less than three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience must: Hold an approved Medical Assistant certification OR Obtain certification within 12 months of hire Accepted certifications include: CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA) CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP) RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH or ARMA) NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP) Alternative Qualifications Candidates may be considered without certification at time of hire if they have: 3+ years of Medical Assistant experience , AND 1+ year of experience in an urgent care, emergency department, or hospital setting Additional Accepted Credentials The following credentials may be accepted in lieu of a Medical Assistant certification: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Additional Requirements CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency in Medical Assistant clinical duties Strong computer skills and ability to document efficiently High attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Commitment to providing respectful, patient-centered care Additional Information This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
