Medical Assistant III- Multispecialty - Greenlawn, NY - Full time Day- Offsite

Description The Medical Assistant III provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Focus of tasks include basic rooming of patient, EKGs, Point of Care Testing and documentation in EPIC. In addition to the MA II skills, the MA III will be responsible to train staff, follow quality assurance guidelines, staff leadership and/or significant experience/skills in a particular specialty such as endoscopy, etc. The MA III should have at least 3+ years experience in a specialized area such as phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery or cardiology . Responsibilities 1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. During endoscopies and colonoscopies, Medical Assistant directly assists physician with duties such as, biopsies, snare manipulation, and patient positioning. 2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. 3. Enters orders into the electronic medical record EPIC system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician. 4. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable. 5. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Additional duties include the maintenance, cleaning, processing, and storage of scopes for endoscopes and colonoscopes. 6. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy. 7. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations. 8. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances. 9. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts. 10. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties. 11. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information. 12. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary. 13. Provides training and mentoring to less experienced Medical Assistant staff. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. Medical Assistants (MA) report to the Practice Manager or Center Operations Specialist. They are a vital element of our model and important members of our Care Teams. Job Description Position Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. Essential Job Functions: Prepares the examination room. Escorts patient into the room. Cleans examination room when exam is complete. Maintains efficient patient flow. Ensures proper preparation for patient visit. Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visit. Communicates & provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of the patient. Answers the telephone in an appropriate manner. Directs calls and/or takes accurate messages. Schedules appointments accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines. Consistently and accurately stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies. Assists in ordering and maintaining of all supplies as assigned. Reconciles encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines. Effectively communicates problems, concerns or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager appropriately and promptly. Understands and performs within scope of practice. Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR. Reviews and updates medication list and accurately documents known allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Demonstrates an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. Accurately documents allergies in EHR. Appropriately enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR. Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR. Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste. Maintains proficiency with department specific equipment, troubleshoots and reports malfunctions promptly Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules. All other duties as assigned Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned. Provide scribing services. Education, Certification, Computer & Training Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program, required. 0-1 year related work experience, required. 2-4 years related work experience, preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) or within 30 days of hire, required Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required Basic proficiency in computer use, required Travel : Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed, required Pay Range: $22.02 - $27.07 Hourly The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
