URGENT CARE CMA I- PRN

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Enters provider orders into electronic medical record. Ensures that designated work area is clean and stocked with supplies on an ongoing basis. Keeps physician/nurse practitioner and/or Director informed of any needed repairs pertaining to medical equipment/supplies. Assists physician/nurse practitioner in preparing examining room, equipment, and patients for medical examination by taking medical history, taking vital signs, drawing lab specimens and performing other duties when assigned. Administers medication both orally and/or by injection as prescribed by the physician/nurse practitioner while reinforcing proper medication and dosage requirements with the patient and/or patient’s family. Assures patient and provider wait time is kept to a minimum by maintaining a steady flow of patient volume into the designated patient exam rooms. Performs various laboratory tests, including but not limited to urine dipsticks, urine drug screens, and blood draws as requested by the provider. Communicates findings to provider and/or patient while educating the patient as needed. Consistently greets and treats patients in a professional manner as evident by demonstrating concern for patients in a helpful and positive way while maintaining confidentiality. Conducts patient callbacks, schedules medical referrals by telephone and/or information system and follow-up medical appointments by telephone per provider’s orders including laboratory test and x-ray procedures. Assists in taking incoming calls and making outgoing telephone calls for the appropriate medical services. Retrieves medical files and/or replaces medical files to the appropriate designated location. Assists in recording and securing all medications for the Center if requested by other medical staff before the shift is completed. No pharmaceuticals are to be left out during the day or overnight at any station or anywhere on the Center’s premises. Accesses the electronic patient information system and Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) computer information system to obtain vital records and dictation from prior medical services. Locates and retrieves patient and/or employer demographic information if patient’s chart is incomplete and/or missing. Follows Center’s and JMH’s protocols in emergency situations and participates in codes. Acts as recorder and obtains supplies in emergency situations. Additionally, complies with all JMH and Center policies and procedures. Supports the Patients’ Bill of Rights. Performs other related duties as assigned. Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health. Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of specialized courses to include the successful completion and graduation from a recognized Medical Assistant training course, CPR certified. One year of related Medical Assistant experience obtained in a provider’s office or clinic preferred. Current CMA, ENCMA, CCMA, certification required or must be obtained within 3 months of hire into CMA role (may not enter provider orders until Certification is obtained). What you need to know about this position: A member of the Columbus Regional Health Physicians team, Sandcrest Family Medicine practice has been awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home Program. Sandcrest has 9 providers: 6 MD's, 1 Family Practice NP, and 2 Psychiatric Mental Health NP's; with 24 exam rooms and 1 procedure room; seeing an average of 80-120 patients daily and offers an acute walk-in clinic Monday through Friday mornings from 8am-10am for established patients. Seeing patients from newborn through end of life. The role our Medical Assistants play may vary but include responsibility for routine back office functions, bringing patients back to exam room, taking and recording basic medical history, and vital signs, point of care testing, phone triage, prior authorizations, medication refills, and assisting the physicians and/or nurse as needed. The hourly range for this position is between $17.61 and $26.41. Individual compensation is determined for this position through years of directly relevant experience. CMA PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST- PULMONARY MEDICINE

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists physician/provider by rooming patients and documenting signs/symptoms, vital signs and BMI, reviews and documents medical, surgical, and family histories, medications and any other pertinent information the provider needs to make an informed decision regarding the patient’s care and plan of treatment. Performs set-up for procedures and assists provider with procedures. Performs dressing changes, suture/staple removal, cast removal, DME fittings, prepares injections and obtains prior authorizations for medication. Fields phone calls from patients regarding medical questions, test results, medication refills etc. and communicates effectively with the respective provider regarding the issue and documents appropriately. Faxes and electronically transmits prescription refills to pharmacies as requested by the patient and authorized by the provider. Schedules tests and procedures and obtains prior authorizations for those tests and procedures. Communicates effectively with the operating room staff when scheduling procedures and communicates with other departments regarding tests that are scheduled in that department. Documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record regarding any scheduled tests/procedures. Reviews and explains any preparations and instructions for scheduled tests and procedures. Ensures the patient understands said instructions. Initiates and follows up on cardiac and medical clearances for said tests/procedures. Prepares patient medical records for upcoming appointments to ensure all test results and/or outside records are obtained and ready for provider to review prior to the patient’s arrival for their scheduled appointment. Enters orders into electronic medical record (EMR)system as directed by physician. Faxes or electronically transmits/receives medical records for continuity of care. Completes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Short and Long-Term Disability paperwork and coordinates with the Medical Information Department if additional medical records are requested along with said paperwork. Orders medical supplies and medications. Coordinates disposal of bio-hazardous materials with Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) and restocks patient exam rooms. Maintains cleanliness of patient exam rooms and nursing area. Maintains sample medication counts and logs. Works with the Pharmacy Department to properly dispose of expired medications. Performs instrument sterilization and proper maintenance of the autoclave. Coordinates incoming and outgoing referrals. Schedules appointments, completes registrations, scans insurance card(s), photo ID(s) and other pertinent information into the patient’s electronic record. Collects and posts co-payments and ensures that the appropriate insurance referral or authorization is received which allows us to consult and treat the patient for the condition for which they are scheduled. Runs insurance eligibility in Cerner and multiple websites to ensure the patient has active coverage and scans this information into Revenue Cycle system. Performs other related duties as assigned.
