Overview The Director, Nursing Services is accountable for the overall administration of the department in order to meet the objectives of the hospital through planning, organizing, executing and evaluating the nursing care provided for patients in the hospital. Responsibilities Manage the department efficiently through the planning, organization, and control of all departmental activities. Formulate and implement departmental objectives in accordance with hospital goals. Develop, evaluate, implement, interpret, and maintain hospital plans, standards, and procedures for nursing practice in compliance with hospital policies, governmental regulations, and regulatory agency requirements. Serve as a role model by adhering to established policies and procedures. Supervise the implementation of total quality management concepts used to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care delivery systems throughout the hospital. Participate as a member of the hospital leadership team and contribute to strategic planning activities. Interpret and support the role of nursing within the hospital's strategic plans. Manage personnel functions, including interviewing, selecting, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating employees, or recommending such actions as necessary. Ensure employees receive orientation, required in-service education, maintain required licensure and certifications, and participate in programs that promote clinical competency and staff development. Determine staffing needs and patterns and recommend appropriate staffing levels and classifications consistent with approved staffing plans. Administer bargaining agreements at the local level for Nursing Services personnel. Coordinate the activities of nursing units and establish productive working relationships with the medical staff and support services. Maintain current knowledge of developments in nursing and healthcare and recommend new services, products, and equipment as appropriate. Participate in continuing education programs designed for nursing leaders. Provide direct patient care when advanced skills and judgment are required and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Adhere to hospital infection prevention and control policies and procedures. Prepare departmental budgets, routine and special reports, and other required forms and documents. Take administrative call responsibilities when delegated by the Administrator. Serve on hospital committees and attend meetings as required. Work off-shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and additional hours as necessary. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Current, unrestricted nursing license in the applicable state required. Preferred Education Bachelor's degree preferred. Required Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience in nursing supervision and/or administration. Formal training and/or experience in effective management techniques required. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to motivate individuals and teams. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups. Physical Requirements Must possess the physical ability to endure prolonged sitting, moderate walking, lifting, and carrying. May be required to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Provides professional nursing care as needed to respond to workload demands or staffing shortages. Qualifications & Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field. Master’s degree preferred Experience Three (3) years’ experience in psychiatric inpatient setting with an additional two (2) years of supervisory experience. Two (2) years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working exclusively with individuals diagnosed with mental illness or multiple disabilities. Regulatory agency knowledge including The Joint Commission, DHSS, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services is preferred. Director of Nursing Services Supplemental Staffing

Overview The Director of Nursing Services has direct responsibility for the supplemental staffing team department. Hasoverall accountability for the quality of patient care, the monitoring of performance of the nursing staff, and thedevelopment and management of the budget. Oversees and directs departmental management in theorientation, education, and development of the staff in order to establish the knowledge and skills necessary toprovide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
