Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory accreditation and quality/safety standards by maintaining and auditing temperature logs ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired checking and maintaining emergency equipment area free of clutter and other related tasks. Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations served and engages the patient in self-management support care/health goal setting pre-visit planning and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities. Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice including but not limited to Point of Care Testing tuberculosis skin testing electrocardiography pulmonary function tests and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon provider and site requirements). The Medical Progressive Care Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is a 21-bed high acuity step-down unit, caring for critically ill adult medical patients. Patient population includes those with complex organ disease, requiring mechanical ventilation, vasoactive drips, and continuous monitoring. Common medical diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, GI bleed, liver failure, and DKA. This is a highly skilled floor, from which new staff will gain instrumental experience. The Lead Nurse is responsible for overseeing nursing operations within the Cardiac ICU and ensuring the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered care. This role combines direct clinical practice with leadership, mentorship, and collaboration to support nursing staff and promote the highest standards of care. The Lead Nurse partners closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, strengthen operational efficiency, and uphold compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based best practices.
