Follow the Plan of Care for each resident, and monitor the performance of Nursing Assistants in implementation of the care plan. Receive controlled substances from the shift Supervisory Nurse and is responsible for all aspects of the storage and distribution of these medications; ensure proper and safe placement and use of medications stored in medication cart, stock medication cupboards, medication room refrigerator and narcotic cabinets. Document as applicable in the care plans, Nursing Notes, Medical Administration Records, Treatment Records and other required records. Monitor resident care standards during performance of duties, and encourage that rights of residents and preferences in care and treatment are respected. From Up to Qualifications (RN - Registered Nurse): Credentials as a Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a current State license required. Registered Nurse (RN) Training and work experience in a geriatric setting preferred. Ability to supervise and work well with other personnel required. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing required. Qualities of maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with others required. Caring, respectful attitude towards residents required. Physical stamina for constant activity required. Ability to perform tasks to established standards of excellence required. Demonstrated willingness to uphold the vision and mission of the company by following the core values of Integrity, Teamwork, and Passion for Excellence and Reverence for the Individual is required. This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. HOURLY RANGE: $28.04 - $37.33 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing routine nursing services at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation, including the Long-Term Care Facility, or Erie County Health Department Clinic. The incumbent provides routine nursing care to residents or patients, may assume charge responsibilities with minimal supervision and may perform higher level technical nursing tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, Physician or other higher-ranking professional of the department. Supervision may be exercised over Hospital/Institutional Aide. Does related work as required. Typical Work Activities Maintains equipment used in the care of patients; Administers and documents the administration of medications; Performs or assists with treatments and procedures; Teaches and/or assists with patient and family health care teaching as outlined on the care plan or as directed; Performs and records vital signs and weights; Administers internal feedings; Observes and monitors patient conditions and documents these in accordance with nursing standards; Informs nurse in charge of care provided to patients and status of patients’ condition; Reports incidents to nurse in charge; Develops and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and hospital personnel; Performs charge duties when necessary and as directed; Provides for patient safety and comfort; Performs tasks normally assigned to a Hospital/Institutional Aide; Transport patients in acute and long-term care facilities; Participates in In-service education. IN ADDITION, IF ASSIGNED TO THE ERIE COUNTY LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY: Maintains communication and reports changes in resident condition to supervising Registered Nurse; Administers and documents the administration of medications, including IV infusions and IV medications; Performs EKG testing, pulse oximetry testing and phlebotomy. Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities And Personal Characteristics Good knowledge of basic nursing techniques; good knowledge of advanced technical nursing skills; good knowledge of infection control; good knowledge of medication administration and pharmacology; ability to apply therapeutic treatments as prescribed; ability to understand and carry out exactly, detailed oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and prepare reports; good interpersonal skills; initiative; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a course of study in a registered School of Practical Nursing approved by the New York State Education Department And Either Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse as issued by the New York State Education Department at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment, or: Possession of a limited Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) permit as issued by the New York State Education Department at time of appointment and Licensed Practical Nurse license within one year and maintenance of license throughout duration of appointment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ECMCC POSITIONS ONLY: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) from an approved ECMCC provider at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.
