As a clinical associate, you will provide basic clinical services to patients and clerical support to the unit health-care team. 9 CST ICU consists of 12 beds serving patients 18 and older. Our critical care nurses practice in a setting where patients require complex ongoing assessment, multiple therapies and interventions. The unit comprised mostly of patients with illness/injury resulting from acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, life threatening arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. The unit also absorbs acute admissions for medical diagnoses requiring critical care needs, allowing the nursing team to maintain a diverse competency skill set. 9 CST ICU is the backup unit for nonoperative stroke patients. This position is full time, working the day shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays A $7,500 sign-on bonus is available when external candidate meets applicable guidelines. Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration. May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes. Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed. Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility. May assist with chart audits. May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients. May participate in the sitter process Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals. Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages. Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage. Operates and maintains general office equipment. Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies. Serves as a resource for department/unit software system. Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds. Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit. Please note - employee must attend mandatory orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks of employment. All classes require to be in person except for 2 online classes. What We Require: Education: High school graduate or GED. Experience: none Licensure, certification, and/or registration: none unless the following: Critical Access Area - Certified Nursing Assistant is required. Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills. Must be organized and self -motivated. Must have knowledge of office procedure and equipment. Job Description The professional registered nurse (RN) plans, coordinates, and manages the care provided to assigned patients and practices under the tenets of Centra's Professional Practice Model. The RN acts as the leader in collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team, providing the foundation for creating the interdisciplinary plan of care. Throughout the patient's stay, the RN coordinates the various care processes that are necessary to achieve desired outcomes, and delegates, as appropriate. Primarily evening/night shift with weekend rotation. Sign on bonus and relocation allowance available. This 12-bed specialized surgical intensive care unit that serves several primary patient populations. Our critical care nurses’ practice in a setting where patients require complex ongoing assessment, multiple therapies, and interventions. This unit has a reputation for excellence and currently the only ICU within the Carilion Clinic system to be recognized with a Gold Level Beacon Award by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Our nurses rely upon a specialized body of knowledge, skills, and experience to provide care to patients after vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, interventional radiology, or an acute stroke. As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.
