ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse - Children's Services will include, but are not limited to the following: Serves and participates as a member of interdisciplinary team. Is responsible for assisting Registered Nurse in coordinating and following through on provisions of health care services for students in program. Keeps progress notes under supervision of registered nurse for each student and summarizes for quarterly, semi-annual and annual reviews. Provides regular and PRN health care to students receiving services as instructed by registered nurse. Provides direct hygiene and health instruction to staff, students receiving services and families as required. Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification and assessment. Reports to consulting physician and Infection Control Nurse. Implements appropriate protective and preventive measures. Provides staff training in regard to infection control regularly and as needed. Provides first aid to students in need of immediate care, with referral to registered nurse, private physician or outside emergency services as necessary. Monitors required staff health records and provides tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements. Keeps up to date and accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents and other pertinent data of students via progress notes. Administers medications as prescribed. Supervises secured storage of medications. Refers all consults and diagnostic reports to registered nurse for review. Transports students to appointments as necessary. Maintains Nursing Office. Orders supplies and equipment as required. Visits students at home as requested by Director or designee. Keeps abreast of changes in Nursing Services field. Performs other related duties as requested. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree of Nursing from an accredited college/university Current active and unrestricted nursing license Pediatric care experience in the acute and/or home care environment Valid driver’s license Current certification in Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals. Minimum of 1 year of recent acute or home care experience, preferably in an institutional setting. Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills, nursing skills per competency checklist. Basic knowledge of computer operating systems and software applications to communicate and document care.
