Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility) VIRTUAL NURSE CLINICAL NURSE The Virtual Nurse will deliver exemplary nursing care virtually, in collaboration with the care team. This virtual care will be provided in collaboration with the care team to inpatients at Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, and Duke Lake Norman Hospital. Utilizes patient EMR to support patient admission, education, discharge planning, identify and interpret trends and acute changes in patient physiology, monitor compliance of care bundles and protocols, and collaborates with the bedside multidisciplinary health care team using effective communication and clinical decision-making skills. Serves as a resource for inpatient support for novice nurses who are developing their clinical competencies and decision-making skills. Provides guidance and assistance while giving additional support in the assessment, evaluation, and intervention responsibilities with patients. Duties and Responsibilities: Supports the bedside staff for a large patient ratio to monitor comprehensive compliance of best practice protocols and care bundles aimed at reduction of Mortality, Length of Stay, Hospital Readmissions, and Patient Safety Events. Provides patient education and support virtually including verbal and written instructions. Assess the patient/family ability to receive education and uses appropriate tools and techniques. Takes initiative to problem solve and demonstrates critical thinking skills. Skilled and comfortable with various technologies to coordinate patient care, including multiple software applications, computerized clinical guidelines, specialized telephone technology, video and image transmission, and more. Supports the bedside care team in patient care activities within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care using the nursing process, clinical judgment, and decision support materials. Provides consultation and second opinion virtually to assist with clinical decision making, including managing inpatient patients whose condition may be deteriorating or who may require transfer to a higher level of care. Act as Charge Nurse and Preceptor in oversite of RSO staff and escalating to unit leadership when appropriate. Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities. Minimum Requirements 3-5 years appropriate inpatient clinical experience is required. Assist residents with activities of daily living (ALDs) including bathing, grooming, and dressing. Assist with mealtime activities, including feeding residents as needed. Summary: Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse. Processes privileged patient health information, processes physician orders, returns patient calls, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities: 1. Maintains compliance with organizational policies and procedures. 2. Demonstrates competance in patient care skills within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse to include assisting with exams and procedures, administering medications, reinforcing patient education, and other procedures as directed by the RN or physician. 3. Documents care provided in the patient's medical record. 4. Processes orders, returns patient calls, and notifies patients of diagnostic results as directed by the physician. 5. Assists with the maintenance of adequate supplies, and performs and documents medical equipment safety checks. 6. Participates in unit performance improvement activities. 7. Demonstrates good customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors.
