Job Summary: Core to the ArchWell Health approach is to have a robust clinical care team focused on the needs of our members. The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a critical role in supporting the PCP day-to-day and ensuring efficiency in the care provided to patients. MAs will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room ArchWell Health members. S/he will be expected to assist in assessing patient’s health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments. The MA-Float may be asked to provide coverage outside of their primary center. Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct intake with patients, measuring and recording vital signs, patient interview, and medical history; perform examinations and routine screenings, ensuring patients are informed and all questions and concerns are addressed for each procedure. Critically listen and engage with patients throughout appointment, ensuring needs and/or changing in patient conditions are reported to PCP, specialists, and/or other clinical personnel. Perform all tasks with a hyper focus on patient experience, including processing of patient phone messages, including returning calls; routing calls to other team members as appropriate; calling patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures and other first aid procedures; use CPR skills, when necessary, all under physician supervision. Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and conduct accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices; follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Required Skills/Abilities: Must possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and integrity, driven and focused work ethic. Self-starter with the ability to think creatively and work effectively. Ability to work effectively with various seniorities and diverse populations including staff, providers, members, family members, insurance carriers, vendors and market leadership. Strong communicator that is customer oriented. Excellent critical reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to analyze situations, determine risks, and find solutions to prevent future issues and resolve recurring defects. Experience with claims/quality reports and analytical software packages. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software. Ability to travel on occasion for company meetings. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required. Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (i.e. foreign-trained physician, paramedic, etc.) required. A minimum of 1 year work experience as a Medical Assistant. 6+months' phlebotomy experience is highly desired. BLS for Healthcare Providers required. EClinical Works or similar EMR experience. Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus. Our unit is supported by an Advanced Practice Nurse and multiple physician teams. The PPCU is a 9-bed unit with private rooms with a patient focus on weaning respiratory support and a multi-disciplinary therapy team for patient rehabilitation. Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care. The Acute Dialysis Unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides the latest treatments and technologies in renal replacement therapy to help patients with renal failure. The acute dialysis department has 12 dialysis bays to dialyze patients in the unit, and portable dialysis machines that enable dialysis RNs to travel throughout the hospital and provide dialysis therapy at patients' bedside, if needed. The types of renal replacement therapy we provide are: hemodialysis, CVVHDF, CVVHD, SCUF, SSED, TPE, CCPD, and CAPD. Department hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 24 hours per day.¿ On Sundays the department RNs rotate on-call obligations.
