WKP is a Joint Commission-approved Primary Stroke Center. Our unit population includes cardiovascular, respiratory, surgical, ortho-neuro, and medical disorders requiring continuous extraordinary care. Patients admitted to this unit require the highest level of care, including ventilatory management, hemodynamic drip titrations, external ventricular drain (EVD) management and many other invasive monitoring skills. Staff also provide Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Therapeutic Plasma Exchanges (TPE). The critical care nurse requires specialized skills for critical thinking, accurate assessment abilities and exceptional communication with providers. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 allowing the nurse to collaborate with the interdisciplinary health care delivery team, the patient and their family for a coordinated plan of care. Our support staff are an intricate part of our team.
