Overview About the Role Participates as an essential member of the healthcare team by providing clinical lactation therapy for patients. Provides education and consultative services related to breastfeeding. Serves as a resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in order to promote optimal patient care. Designs and provides patient and staff education programs. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Initiates and receives referrals from physicians, nursing staff, and patients. Develops, implements, and evaluates an educational plan for patients requiring lactation services. Assesses the educational needs of the breastfeeding mother and family. Identifies an individual plan to meet the breastfeeding mother’s needs. Assures that lactation services are provided in a timely manner. Provides direct patient care lactation service to patients. Report on and off duty to NCC Performs assigned duties under the direction of the NCC or her designee (i.e. the nurse in charge). Takes report and makes rounds on assigned residents.
