Responsibilities The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for managing the care of the pediatric and adult patient requiring a surgical procedure. The PACU RN is a professional nurse who is directly or indirectly responsible for delivering total nursing care to the perioperative patient during the post-operative phases of the perioperative stay. The PACU RN participates in the clinical assessment, planning for care, implantation of appropriate nursing techniques and evaluation of nursing interventions. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited nursing program. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of 1 year previous PACU experience REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure in Texas as Registered Nurse. Certified though the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support. ACLS required within 6 months of hire. Multidimensional responsibilities include patient/family teaching and patient care throughout the pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery phases of care. The registered nurse in Pre-op/PACU is involved in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, potential or actual problems associated with anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of one year acute care experience as an RN preferred. Recent working experience in pre-op/PACU preferred. Critical care background preferred. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times. Strong critical thinking skills.
