Work Shift Various (United States of America) Up to $50,000 Sign-on bonus for experienced providers Position Summary Wellstar MCG is seeking a compassionate and skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our dynamic Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit team within a leading academic hospital. The NNP will work collaboratively with neonatologists, pediatric residents, fellows, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional, evidence-based care for critically ill and preterm newborns. This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the care and development of neonates while being part of a respected, teaching-based healthcare system that values teamwork, innovation, and professional growth. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care: Provide direct, high-quality care to neonates in the NICU, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of critically ill newborns and premature infants. Procedures: Competently perform or assist in neonatal procedures such as intubation, central and umbilical line placement, lumbar punctures, and other NICU related interventions. The NNP is expected to maintain procedural proficiency and actively contribute to the education of residents, fellows, and other clinicians during procedural training. Delivery Attendance and Transport: Serve as a key responder for high-risk deliveries, providing advanced neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, and transition of care in coordination with neonatologists and stabilization team. NNPs participate in ongoing evaluation of delivery-room practices and staff education. The unit provides ground and air transport services, with NNPs managing in-house care for transported infants upon arrival. Collaboration and Education: Collaborate with neonatologists, fellows, residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, and nursing colleagues to deliver coordinated, family-centered care. Engage in clinical teaching, bedside instruction, and mentoring of interdisciplinary learners, contributing to the hospital’s academic mission and culture of continuous learning. Rounds and Documentation: Conduct and document daily rounds, assessments, and care plans for assigned patients using the electronic medical record (EMR), ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Family Support: Educate and support families regarding infant care, development, and discharge planning, promoting family-centered care principles. Quality and Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, maintain compliance with evidence-based practice guidelines, and contribute to ongoing process improvements that enhance patient outcomes. On-Call Coverage: Provide on-call and shift coverage in rotation with the neonatology APP team. Qualifications Education: · Master’s (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a neonatal focus. Licensure and Certification: · Current licensure (or eligibility) as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in the state of Georgia. · National board certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC or equivalent). Experience: · Two (2) years of NICU experience as an APRN preferred. · New graduates with strong NICU bedside experience are encouraged to apply. Skills and Competencies: · Strong clinical and procedural skills in neonatology. · Ability to function effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues. · Proficiency with EMR documentation and familiarity with NICU-specific clinical protocols. Preferred Qualifications · Prior experience in a Level III or Level IV NICU. · Current Basic Life Support (BLS) , Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) · Experience collaborating in an academic or teaching hospital environment. · Participation in or interest in quality improvement and evidence-based practice projects. Work Schedule This full-time position consists mainly of 24-hour shifts, with 12-hour shifts available based on departmental needs. Day, night, and holiday assignments are distributed evenly to promote balance and support team consistency. The average daily census is 40 patients, with about 3 new admissions per day.
