Overview Legacy Health offers an exciting growth opportunity to join a well-established team of collaborative and energetic Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs). This role provides the opportunity to practice across both Level III and Level IV NICU settings within the Legacy system. NNPs are integral to delivery attendance and the medical management of high-risk neonates and infants, including daily rounding on NNP service patients. In addition to clinical care, the role includes telemedicine resuscitation coverage for Legacy Level I nursery sites and opportunities to contribute to non-clinical initiatives that support the highest standards of care for NICU patients and their families. Responsibilities Patient Care Management: The NNP’s work collaboratively with Neonatologists and pediatric subspecialists in the NICU as well as pediatricians and obstetricians in the Labor and Delivery and Family Birthing centers to guide the care of neonates and infants across the care continuum. The NNP’s are able to practice in an autonomous role utilizing technical procedural skills as well as essential decision making in the care of these patients. Nursing Care Support: The NNP team provide ongoing support to the nursing staff whether on the unit or through formal education opportunities. The NNP’s are key leaders in patient care projects that support both nursing care and medical management. Resuscitation: The NNP’s attend deliveries in person at each of the medical centers and via a telehealth support platform at the other level I nursery sites to provide a consistent high level of care for newborns throughout the Legacy system. Discharge Planning: The entire NICU team works to provide an integrated family care experience to enable families to care for their high-risk infants within the NICU setting and beyond. The NICU values input from all members of the team including dedicated neonatal RT’s, consultants from dietary, OT/PT, lactation, as well as the core nursing, medical and leadership staff. Qualifications Education: As required by licensure. Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience as an NICU Staff Nurse, Level III preferred. Licensure Current applicable state RN license required. National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) required. Current applicable state license as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Privileges (NNP-PP) required. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor Certification, (or within 90 days of employment). Credentialed by Legacy Medical Staff for Category I and II privileges. A variety of interventions including portable ventilators, multisystem trauma care, pain management and blood/blood products administration pre/post op care of adult neurosurgical patients including those requiring ventriculostomy management, may occur in this patient population. Qualifications Education: As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. Overview LPNs take care of patients that have long term treatment needs. Often, these patients do not have a safe discharge plan to complete the treatment elsewhere and therefore continue to have a bed in the hospital. LPNs could have the opportunity to have hands on experience with wound care and IV antibiotics, among other long term care treatment. LPNs may often work beside acute care RNs but not directly in acute patient care areas. They work in collaboration with a C.N.A., charge RN, unit coordinator and physician. LPN staff with a variety of experience and backgrounds work on this unit. We strive to support learning and continuted education with all staff. Complex discharge units have medically stable but complex patients who are pending a safe discharge plan. The LPN must think critically, be able to problem solve and be ready to learn. Excellent communication with teammates and patients is essential. The ability to maintain compassion for this complex patient population is also essential. Staff on this unit value teamwork. Our physician partners work closely with this team to support in providing the best care posible for our patients. Responsibilities Assessment : Contributes to and communicates age appropriate admission and daily bio/psycho/social assessments. Collects, reports and records objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Observes the patient's condition or changes in condition. Documents the observations in a timely, legible and concise manner in accordance with written guidelines. Validates patient classification indicator via required documentation. Analysis: Contributes to the establishment of nursing diagnosis and clinical problem identification. Identifies and reports the significant deviations from the norm to the RN, MD and oncoming shift. Planning: Participates in establishing and updating and individualized plan of care in collaboration with RN, patient and family. Provides data and contributes to the identification of priorities. Reviews and updates the nursing plan of care to reflect current patient status by the end of the shift. Education: Completion of a medical assistant program or equivalent experience; or Completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces; or Completion of Basic or Advanced Oregon Emergency Medical Technician program (Oregon only) Licensure MA certification required within one year, from either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). MA certification requirement may be met instead by current Oregon Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license and national EMT registration (NREMT). Oregon only.
