Overview The LPN is responsible for performing a wide variety of nursing care, patient activities, and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders and under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. Special Instructions Employee may be required to take call , may be required to work weekends Responsibilities • Performs basic nursing care and patient procedures as required. • Participates in conferences and serves on committees as requested. • Observes, reports, and documents changes in patient condition, observations made, complaints voiced, and nursing care performed. • Participates in patient and family health education as necessary. • Provides a safe and secure environment for patients. • Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. • May administer I.V.F. in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act. • Checks, irrigates, and maintains drainage tubes as needed. • May insert N/G tubes after training (KY & VA). • May administer tube feedings. • Suctions patients according to hospital policy and procedure. • Functions in emergencies and on the code team as designated. • Performs catheterizations and provides catheter care. • Administers oral, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, I.V., P.B., and approved medications. • Administers I.V.P. medications as approved (Virginia only). • Cares for patients receiving oxygen therapy and analyzes oxygen concentration of O2 tents, isolettes, and croupettes. • Administers respiratory treatments (I.P.P.B.). • Applies sterile and unsterile compresses and bandages of all types and styles. • Answers call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living. • Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and pH, weighs patients, and obtains vital signs. • Cares for patients in isolation. • Assists with physical and vaginal examinations and obtaining Pap smears. • Administers post-operative care, including coughing, deep breathing, turning patients, and obtaining vital signs. • Prepares patients for surgery, including completion of pre-operative checklists. • Applies ace bandages, all types of traction, hot water bottles, and ice caps. • Measures and records intake and output. • Collects specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum. • Administers post-mortem care and transportation. • Administers enemas, including retention, cleansing, therapeutic, and colonic irrigation. • Maintains cleanliness, safety, and efficiency in nursing care. • Responds appropriately in emergency situations, providing patient care, initiating CPR, and performing duties designated by the RN or physician. • Assists with the care and security of patient valuables. • Checks narcotics and barbiturates, reports discrepancies, completes incident reports, and submits documentation to appropriate management. • Cares for patients with radium and assists physicians with removal of radium. • Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization. • Cleans and maintains storage of equipment and requests repairs as appropriate. • Follows up with physicians and staff regarding equipment performance. • Complies with hospital policies for obtaining, documenting, and following through on telephone and verbal orders. • Monitors glucose using a glucose monitoring device. • Collects Quality Improvement data as requested. • Uses universal precautions. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing. Licenses & Certifications • Must maintain current licensure in the state of practice. • Must successfully complete the I.V. Therapy Course. Enterprise Registered Nurse Supplemental Staffing Team

Overview The Supplemental Staffing Team (SST) Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Appalachian Regional Healthcare including those established by the Nurse Practice Act. The primary function of this role, based upon hired tier and float option, is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and/or hospital sites throughout ARH healthcare locations within Kentucky and/or West Virginia. The SST RN is to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to same day staffing assignments, more than one assignment location within a single shift, travel assignments, seasonal staffing patterns or natural disaster/emergency response. Participates as a member of the Supplemental Staffing Team in cooperation with and under the direction of Director and/or Clinical Nurse Manager or designee. • Supplemental Staffing Team RNs are hired with the understanding they must float based on one of the following staffing models: • Local: Float expectation within a single site based on competency. • Regional: Float expectation within multiple sites within a single region based on competency. • Enterprise: Float expectation within multiple sites across one or more regions that are greater than 75 miles from the RN's home address and accepts assignments that range from 2 to 13 weeks based on competency. Special Instructions Enterprise: Contracts range from 2 to 26 weeks at facilities within an assigned region, with a maximum of 26 weeks allowed at any single location before reassignment within the assigned region.. Overview The Clinical Nurse Manager, working with Nurse Managers, is accountable for the supervision of nursing services for certain assigned nursing units to provide safe, effective and efficient nursing care. Overview The Supplemental Staffing Team (SST) Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Appalachian Regional Healthcare including those established by the Nurse Practice Act. Qualifications Education • Associate's Degree required. • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing required. • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience • Up to one (1) year of experience preferred. • Minimum of one (1) year acute care nursing experience preferred. • One (1) year of experience should be relevant to the specific department in which the nurse will be working. • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred. Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities • Ability to operate critical care equipment such as respirators, temporary pacemakers, defibrillators, and other emergency equipment. • Ability to set up, maintain, and interpret cardiac and hemodynamic monitors and take actions as indicated by nursing practice and hospital procedures. • Ability to perform special procedures including endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning, tracheostomy care, extubation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, arterial punctures, chest tube and pleurevac care, setup and assistance with peritoneal dialysis, paracentesis, and thoracentesis. • Ability to manage specialty drips using approved protocols. • Prior to assignment as the sole RN provider on the unit, successful completion of a critical care course acceptable to the Community Chief Nursing Officer and demonstration of competency in critical care equipment, diagnostic responsibilities, and procedures. • Critical care education must include: • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and management of an obstructed airway. • EKG interpretation. • Drug therapy, including emergency drug therapy via the IV route or routes normally left to the physician. • Hemodynamic monitoring. • Critical care procedures. • Completion of Moderate Sedation competency. • Completion of Stroke Modules. • Completion of Restraints competency. • Adequate orientation to unit policies, procedures, and equipment. • Orientation shall include safety procedures, infection control practices, and performance improvement activities. Licenses & Certifications • Registered Nurse required. • Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG certification required. • NIH Stroke Certification required. • BLS certification required. • Advanced Life Support Certification required. • De-Escalation Training required within six (6) months of hire. • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification preferred.

Medical Assistant

Overview The Medical Assistant is responsible for efficient and courteous registration, transfer and discharge of patients within established policies and procedures; thoroughly compiles and types of medical information for patients' records and statistical reports and maintains current and accurate patient account receivables. The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders. Responsibilities • Performs basic patient care procedures as required. • Participates in conferences and serves on committees as requested. • Participates in patient and family education as necessary. • Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. • Takes and records vital signs, height, and weight. • Performs catheterizations and provides catheter care. • Administers oral and intra-muscular medications. • Cares for patients receiving oxygen therapy. • Applies sterile and non-sterile compresses and bandages. • Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and pH. • Assists with physical examinations. • Applies ace bandages and hot and/or cold compresses. • Collects specimens including blood, urine, stool, and sputum. • May perform venipunctures and EKGs as needed. • Maintains cleanliness, safety, and efficiency in the clinic. • Remains alert and responds appropriately in emergency situations. • Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization. • Understands legal requirements for reporting to police, health departments, and other agencies and follows all reporting requirements. • Accompanies or transfers patients to other departments such as the laboratory or x-ray department. • Cleans and stocks examination rooms. • Manages time effectively to expedite patient flow. • Assists with minor outpatient surgery procedures. • Greets patients courteously, determines their needs, and offers assistance. • Registers patients by performing necessary procedures, including preparation of records, reports, notices, service charge slips, and payor information. • Interviews patients, relatives, or others responsible to determine payment arrangements and refers unusual cases to the immediate supervisor. • May assist self-pay patients in making suitable arrangements for balances due beyond initial deposits or third-party payments. • Answers inquiries regarding patient accounts and advises patients on insurance benefits. • Receives payments and deposits, issues receipts, and maintains proper accounting of funds received. • Posts charges daily to the proper patient account. • Posts payments to accounts daily. • Determines billing methods for third-party payors. • Contacts insurance carriers and agencies to obtain precertification of ancillary, admission, and surgical procedures. • Operates various office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and other assigned equipment. • Operates communication systems, including placing and answering telephone calls and contacting staff as needed. • May make and maintain appointment schedules for clinic physicians. • May secure required signatures on reports and records relative to release of information in accordance with policies and procedures. • Contacts patients, physicians, or others for information necessary to properly complete insurance or other billing requirements. • Types memos, correspondence, and other documents as needed. • Compiles periodic and statistical reports and other data as directed.
