The NDCS is seeking to hire a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide primary health care services. Selected candidate will be joining our staff of Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and other health care professionals. Starting wage for Physician Assistant $58.846/hour Starting wage for Nurse Practitioner $60.428/hour Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Physician Assistant: Graduation from an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant program or have passed the National Commission Certification examination; supervisory experience helpful. Nurse Practitioner: Successful completion of an accredited program for Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Incumbents must have a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse and be certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska. Preferred Qualifications : Experience working as a Physician Assistant within a clinical setting or equivalent experience. Work experience as a Physician Assistant in a correctional or institutional setting. Current CPR/ALCS certification preferred (required within one year of hire). Other : Certification and current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska. Must possess a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Life Sciences including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Histology, and Embryology; the use and effect of modern drugs; primary care medicine as outlined by the Nebraska State Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants. Skill in: Interacting effectively with interdisciplinary teams toward proving medical care; clinical assessments and differential diagnosis; physical examination; basic CPR; interpreting laboratory data and x-rays; performing minor surgery; proctoscopy; the treatment of non-displaced fractures and casting; documenting observations and diagnosis. Under limited supervision of a Nursing Director/Associate or Nurse Supervisor, provides professional nursing care for ill, injured, or disabled inmates. Provides clinical direction and guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses and direct care staff, provides direct patient nursing care and treatment within the scope of licensure in a correctional setting. Performs patient care in a clinic or hospital setting. Administer medications, transcribe and carry out doctor's orders, assess patients utilizing protocols, triage. Assist in moving patients. Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications : A current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska. Preferred Qualifications : Experience in assigning, reviewing, leading, or supervising the work of others. Other : Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training. Must submit to background security check.
