Description The Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit , is located in the new state-of-the-art North Carolina Surgical Hospital. It is a fast-paced, Level 1 Trauma certified, Beacon Gold Award for Excellence designated, 40-bed unit specializing in the care of critically injured trauma and surgical patients. This unit serves a variety of surgical patients in addition to trauma to include, but not limited to, transplant, plastics, oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, gastrointestinal, and orthopedics. Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are hallmarks for this unit while providing expert “Carolina Care” to the patients and families we serve. Our ONE GREAT TEAM facilitates admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges of patients 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The UNC Medical Center Float Pool is a staffing pool for outpatient and procedural areas. We provide staff for approximately 166 clinics, the majority of which are in Chapel Hill. Individuals must be willing to commute to Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Hillsborough, Burlington, and Greensboro for their shifts. Schedules are made based on clinic needs, therefore clinic assignments can vary day-to-day, giving you an opportunity to experience a variety of specialties and teams! Our staff is expected to work both on campus (in the hospital) and at off-campus clinics. Employees are per diem and are compensated with flat hourly rates. Teammates in these roles do not qualify for PTO, FMLA, or health insurance. Individuals are expected to work a minimum of 6-eight (8) hour shifts per 6 week scheduling period and must be available to work at least 1 Monday and 1 Friday per month and an additional Monday OR Friday. Overview The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work under the general supervision of their Medical Director, all physician partners, and their APP Manager, in WakeMed Physician Practices to deliver competent medical care to patients at WakeMed. This position can consist of both inpatient and outpatient care depending on the needs of the service and is outlined in the clinical job expectations. This may include completion of referrals, consults, daily patient rounds, daily notes, discharge summaries, procedures, clinic notes, pre and post procedure care, prescribing and patient care follow-ups. As a healthcare professional, will function as an educator for PA/NP/CNM/DO students from healthcare education programs. How you make a difference The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in patient care by contributing to the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Implements treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, administering medications, including IV therapy (if certified), and performing diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures. Collaborates in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift, adhering to safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions while responding to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines. Assists in medical or minor surgical procedures, implements nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and documents nursing encounters using SOAP charting, ensuring effective communication with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel. Attends mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high-quality patient care. Qualifications & Requirements Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience Licenses/Certifications Have and maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse within the state of employment. Organizes service delivery, manage resources, and collaborate with other departments, facilities, persons served, families, and visitors. Monitors safety issues, evaluate service delivery and staff growth, and adhere to the organization's Code of Conduct.
