Are you living your life's work? Why Join Our Team? The Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) is a 24-bed postpartum unit providing couplet care for mothers and newborns, as well as low-risk antepartum patients. Our MBU nursing staff, obstetrical hospitalists, and neonatologists offer 24-hour, family-centered care. Lactation services are provided by our board certified lactation consultants and supported by our nurses who have extensive breastfeeding training . Mothers at risk for postpartum hypertensive complications are counseled and enrolled in our post-discharge surveillance program, Heart Safe Motherhood. Newborns are evaluated daily by pediatricians or neonatologists, and can be taken to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) should further evaluation be needed or complications arise. Newborn care procedures include hearing screens, evaluation and management of hyperbilirubinemia, car seat testing, screening for critical congenital heart defects, and metabolic screening. Patient education is central to postpartum care and address topics such as newborn care, maternal care and recognition of early warning signs of possible postpartum complications. Collaboration with Princeton Health’s Community Wellness services is also initiated as needed. Scheduling Requirements: Work a minimum of five day shifts per four-week schedule (7am-7pm) 2 of these shifts must be fulfilled on a weekend shift Work two holidays per calendar year. Per Diem RNs will be paid at 1.5 times the rate for all hours worked on these holidays. Based on your hired shift, work at least two ‘difficult to staff’ days per calendar year (Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween, ‘Black Friday’, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve) Follow departmental call-out policy Make-up absences within the same schedule period. Failure to comply with this on two occasions in a year will result in withdrawal of the employee from Per Diem status. In addition to routine care, nurses provide other clinical services such as insertion and care of peripheral IV lines, administration of blood and blood products, urinary catheterization, evaluation for postpartum depression risk factors and support, and pain management. Diagnostic services include bladder scanning, EKGs, ultrasound studies, external fetal monitoring and non-stress tests (for antepartum patients), x-rays, and laboratory tests.
