General Summary: The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy. Responsibilities: Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting. Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs. Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record. Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans. Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration. Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate. Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions. Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care. Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request. Responsibilities: Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures. Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Report problems immediately to a professional nurse. Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse. Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or x-rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests. Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned. Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities. Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience: Education: High School Diploma or GED, Certificate Program-Must meet one or more of the following criteria: Completion of a Nursing Assistant training course, Medical Assistant training course or Patient Care Technician training course.
