Description The Assistant Nurse Manager Vascular Thoracic Night Shift position is a Registered Professional Nurse with broad knowledge and skills who assumes the role of a clinical leader in the daily functioning of the unit and oversight of quality patient care delivery, in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the Nurse Manager. Responsibilities Patient Care 1. Leads nursing practice using the tenets of the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing for the promotion of the patient experience. 2. Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) and role models expected behaviors. 3. Ensures the integration of PHR into clinical activities to enhance Relationship Centered Care. 4. Assists in the validation of staff members round hourly on all patients by direct observation and patient feedback. 5. Assesses staff competency in PHR and provides consistent meaningful feedback with more focused feedback as needed. 6. Demonstrates those behaviors which reflect the scientific knowledge, judgment, and technical skills of a Licensed Practical Nurse Performs job duties under supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Demonstrates a competent level of approved skilled nursing care tasks and procedures using approved technical skills related to vital signs, pulse oximetry, venipuncture, starting standard peripheral IVs only (not midlines or long peripheral lines), urinary catheter insertion/catheter care; and simple dressings, remove/discontinue a peripheral line. Administer IV fluids, provided completion of annual competency IV therapy training. Monitors patients receiving blood and blood products and TPN under the direction of the RN, who administers the transfusion. Makes recommendations in the application of the nursing process. Participates in planning, and administers direct patient care, including activities of daily living (ADL). Performs point of care testing including blood glucose. Performs nursing procedures as defined in the nursing procedure manual. Administers medication as defined in nursing policy. ALL routes except cannot administer medications IV push/bolus (except for a Normal Saline or heparin flush) or via a central line. LPNs do not administer chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
