CORE JOB SUMMARY The UMMG Department is currently seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant 2 to work onsite in Palm Beach Gardens. The Medical Assistant 2 will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA 2 shall assist patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA 2 provides hands- on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA 2 shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA 2 provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA 2 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record. Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps. Prepares treatment room for examination of patient. Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed. Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique. S chedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work. Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or equivalent Medical Assistant certificate of completion - Program or institute must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency, approved by the US Department of Education , or affiliated . *Credentialed Medical Assistant certification from a recognized accredited or certified body organization (See Certification and Licensing list below) . * Note: If the Medical Assistant has not obtained a recognized Credentialed Medical Assistant certification at the time of hire, certification must be obtained within 12 months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
