In this role, you’ll manage incoming information via telephone, call bell, and direct conversation — ensuring communication flows smoothly and patients receive timely attention. Essential Job Duties: Promotes patient safety and abides by the patient fall risk program and completes fall risk rounding at least twice per shift. Obtains and documents vital signs and reports abnormal findings to patient's nurse. Performs daily weights and reports abnormal findings to patient's nurse. Appropriately documents ADLs, ambulation, intake and output, vital signs, weights, safety rounding, and any other patient care activities performed throughout shift. Ensures that patients have fresh water, while appropriately observing patients with NPO status or fluid restrictions. Assists patients with activities of daily living along with providing them with supplies. Assists in ambulating patient according to physician order. Has ability to sit 1: 1 with patients requiring such supervision. Ensures that patient's rooms have an updated whiteboard, are tidy, and free of clutter. Appropriately sets up a patient room for admission. Changes linens on beds daily and when soiled. Removes all linens from patient rooms after discharge and before housekeeping begins the terminal cleaning of the room. Replaces telemetry leads and/or batteries on patients as needed. Able to document patient name, date and time on computer for telemetry patients. Performs weekly eyewash station checks every 7 days. Checks patient refrigerator daily for dates on open containers and expired items. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations. Requirements Must have an active valid CNA certificate in Maine. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Obtains BLS certification within 1 year of hire into this position and maintains current certification thereafter. Completes CNA basic rhythms review. As a key member of the surgical team, the Surgical Technician works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and registered nurses to deliver high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery. Essential Job Duties: Consistently demonstrates competency in assisting the surgical team before, during, and after operative procedures. Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment necessary for each surgical procedure as outlined on physician preference cards. Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure, knowledge or surgical preference, scrub and gown, glove. Prepares sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, cautery, suction, prosthesis, and solutions needed for procedure. Performs count of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator prior to surgery and before incision is closed. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants, etc., and helps in draping sterile field. Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure, and prepare sterile dressings, etc. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure and cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of team with terminal cleanup of room in readiness for next patient and applies the principals of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care. Identifies an emergency and uses sound judgement in instituting established procedures to apply them in a calm and efficient manner. Develops initiative to inquire, challenge and explore new procedures and subjects relating to the operating room and to the surgical patient. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient. Identifies the structure and function of body parts; recognizes common disorders of the body. Understands aspects of Operating Room techniques and applies them in a professional manner, and related Operating Room technique to total hospital environment. Understands the service provided by the surgeon in relation to the patient's restoration to health and return to the community. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon to expedite the procedure, thus minimizing the patient's exposure to trauma. Differentiates sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments necessary for specific procedures. Displays dexterity in the use of surgical instruments and the knowledge of the step-by step procedure for specific surgical procedures. Demonstrates proficiency and efficiency for surgeries oriented and trained on. Displays knowledge and ability to assist with Sterilizers, Electro Cautery Machines, Suction, Fiber optic Equipment, Pacemaker Equipment, Orthopedic Tourniquets, Microscopes, Air-powered Equipment, Operating Room Tables and Orthopedics Table. Applies knowledge in accordance with teaching and policies regarding the Principles of asepsis and sterile technique, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Care and Handling of specimens, Environmental safety, Manual dexterity, Cost containment, Surgical Complications, Instrumentation, Sutures, Solutions, and Prosthetics. Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Requirements Surgical Technician experience preferred, however, willing to provide on-the-job training. Active Surgical Technician/Technologist certification preferred High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Meet the unit's annual competency training requirements. Obtain BLS certification within 1 year of accepting position and maintain certification thereafter. Availability: Depending on department staffing needs, you may be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Will be required to be part of the call schedule. Infection Control: Performs general care activities for patients with special precautions ( contact, droplet, or airborne), utilizing appropriate technique and following infection control policies. Performs proper hand washing hygiene before and after client care. Communicates effectively and performs in harmony with visitors, coworkers. physicians. Demonstrates ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with the resident, guardian, family and visitors through communication. Approaches interpersonal relationships in a manner which avoids antagonism, reduces conflict, and prevents undue resident anxiety. Recognizes the need for team effort by cooperating with rotation of assignments and assisting other members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability: Assumes personal and professional responsibility for decisions made and actions taken. Essential Job Duties: Collaborate with nurses and physicians as needed to maximize team effectiveness. Maintain fax machine, printers and PCs, while troubleshooting problems.
