Clinical Nursing Student - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital Job Summary: The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN. Essential Functions: Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process. Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties. Position: Full Time Patient Care Assistant (PCA) ‍ Department : Tower 2 - Med/Surg Shift: 8 or 12 hr shifts of 11p-730a / 7p-730a ‍ PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Unit Director or as directed by the Registered Nurse, performs various patient care activities and related services in caring for the needs and comfort of patients in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. The patient population to whom care is delivered, may include newborns, toddlers, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma preferred but not required. Ability to speak, read, and basic math skills required. Must have completed an approved curriculum for State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) training, and passed the Nurse Aide competency tests for written/oral and clinical skills; or completed the SRMC Patient Care Assistant training course; or completed a Medical Assistant curriculum; or completed an EMT program; or completed the first semester of the physical assessment course in the Nursing Program or completed an LPN training program. After hire, maintaining PCA competencies will be done through skills lab, observation, and written exams, etc. Must have or obtain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (maintains currency of certification).
