Responsibilities: Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures. Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Report problems immediately to a professional nurse. Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse. Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or x-rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests. Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned. Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested. The Nurse Practitioner works within a collaborative model to provide quality care and to improve patient outcomes by strengthening continuity of care in all settings for patients, families, and staff in both the hospital and physician practice settings. When department/case applicable, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) remains responsible for the patient throughout the course of the treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and releases the patient. The NP may refer the patient to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent medication.
