Perform special procedures such as endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning; tracheostomy care; extubation; cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; arterial punctures; care of chest tubes and pleurevac; set up and assistance with peritoneal dialysis, paracentesis, thoracentesis. Able to manage specialty drips using approved protocols Prior to assignment to unit as sole RN provider, the nurse must successfully complete critical care course acceptable to the Community Chief Nursing Officer and demonstrate mastery of equipment, diagnostic responsibilities, and procedures required of the critical care nurse. Such course work shall include: • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and management of an obstructed airway. • EKG interpretation. • Drug therapy, including emergency drug therapy via the I.V. route, or routes normally left to the physician. • Hemodynamic monitoring. • Critical care procedures. Responsibilities • Provides personal care including bathing, shampooing, shaving, back rubs, positioning patients, making beds, preparing patients for meals, feeding patients, and providing ice water. • Answers all signal lights and bells promptly to determine and meet patient needs. • Collects specimens including stool, urine, sputum, and other samples as needed. • Collects and records intake and output appropriately. • Collects and records vital signs and obtains pertinent patient information according to hospital policy. • Assists and/or feeds patients, provides between-meal nourishments, provides fresh drinking water, and encourages fluid intake when indicated. • Assists in progressive ambulation of patients by wheelchair, stretcher, and bed. • Administers enemas, douches, and inserts rectal tubes and documents appropriately. • Applies ace bandages and elastic stockings and fills hot water bottles, ice bags, pads, and humidifiers. • Cares for Foley catheters and Levine tubes as instructed by the nurse. • Applies condom drains, scrotal suspensories, unsterile compresses, and binders. • Provides postmortem care and transports bodies to the morgue. • Applies restraints and side rails to ensure patient safety. • Observes isolation techniques and provides direct care to patients in isolation. • Assists with colostomy care. • Sets up orthopedic appliances. • Runs errands, delivers messages, and answers telephones. • Maintains a safe environment. • Observes and reports safety hazards and prepares incident reports. • Prepares patients for surgery, x-ray procedures, and other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments by: • Remaining with patients unless relieved. • Providing proper equipment and supplies and adjusting lights as needed. • Cleaning and restocking treatment areas, supplies, and equipment. • Assists in orienting new patients to their surroundings. • Assists in maintaining a sanitary and safe environment in service and nursing areas. • Participates in team conferences, in-service education programs, and staff meetings. • Assists other hospital employees as needed, including returning patients from Recovery Room, Surgery, X-ray, and other departments when indicated. • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients. Qualifications Education • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. • Completion of a Nurse Aide Training Program required. Experience • Three (3) months of on-the-job training required to attain proficiency in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities • Knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel. • Ability to assist patients with activities of daily living and provide quality patient care. • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. • Ability to maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized patient care environment. • Ability to observe, report, and document patient information accurately. • Additional training may be required to work in certain areas, including competency listing requirements established by the State of Kentucky for Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) assignments. Registered Nurse

Overview The Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process in the respective departments in which assigned. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members and students. Responsibilities • Completes patient assessments, formulates plans of care, oversees implementation of plans of care, and evaluates and adjusts plans of care utilizing critical thinking skills. • Performs other nursing acts authorized or limited by the Board and consistent with American Nurses Association Standards of Practice or Standards of Practice established by nationally accepted organizations of registered nurses. • Provides care, counseling, health teaching, and health promotion utilizing Teach Back methodology as affirmation of comprehension. • Administers medications, intravenous therapy, and treatments as prescribed by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). • Supervises, delegates, and follows through with other personnel in the performance of activities relating to nursing care. • Mentors and precepts students and orients new staff as assigned. • Reports pertinent information through the chain of command to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or House Nurse Coordinator. • Participates on various teams, committees, and performance improvement initiatives. • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self. • Participates in Discharge Planning and Transition of Care activities and is able to define patient needs. • Serves as a patient advocate and escalates patient-related concerns in a timely manner. • Documents pertinent findings in the medical record in a timely manner. • Assists patients in performing activities of daily living and functions as an active team member. • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development. • Utilizes effective communication skills and active listening and exhibits a compassionate and empathetic attitude. • Practices Hands Off communication utilizing SBAR and performs Bedside Shift Reporting utilizing SBAR unless contraindicated. • Functions as a positive influence and role model and adheres to the professional code of conduct. • Respects the dignity and confidentiality of all matters relating to patients. • Refers to Special Addendum and Staff Nurse Position Description. • Performs other job duties as assigned. Emergency Room Training Requirements • State and federal regulations related to emergency services. • Nursing management of trauma. • Nursing management of cardiac-related disorders. • Performance of EKG procedures, EKG interpretation, and appropriate nursing interventions. • Pharmacological intervention including IV therapy. • Patient assessment and triage. • Nursing management of pediatric emergencies. • Medicolegal aspects, particularly related to proper documentation. • Nursing management of obstetrical emergencies. • Patient and family emotional responses. • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management. Qualifications Education • Associate's Degree required. • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing required. • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience • Up to one (1) year of experience preferred. • Minimum of one (1) year acute care nursing experience preferred. • One (1) year of experience should be relevant to the specific department in which the nurse will be working. • Refer to addendums for additional department-specific requirements. • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.
