Schedule: 36 hours weekly, 7 AM to 7PM. Type: In Person. As a Float Nurse (RN), you will: Be responsible for providing additional and/or relief coverage as indicated by staff shortage or patient status in varying patient care areas. Perform a full range of professional nursing services, including assessing, administering, and evaluating patient care, in accordance with team treatment plan. Administer medical treatment as prescribed by physician and is responsible for teaching and providing psychosocial support to patients. Provide day-to-day clinical direction to Mental Health Workers. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with psychiatrically ill patients in order to gain their cooperation and allay apprehensions, with treatment team members in the delivery of care, and with patients and family members to provide effective health teaching (51-80% of work time). The Thought Disorders Unit at Sheppard Pratt Health System is a 22-bed unit that treats patients with psychotic illnesses, including Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorders, as well as Neuropsychiatric Disorders. Patients are treated under the expert care of experienced psychiatrists, nursing, and other clinical staff. With an average length of stay between 10 and 14 days, the Thought Disorders Unit is unique as it is one of the few specialized units across the country that specifically cares for patients with psychotic illnesses. As a Registered Nurse/RN you will: Perform a full range of professional psychiatric nursing services, including assessing, planning, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with team treatment plans. As a Nurse Coordinator you will be stationed at the Towson hospital campus working Day and Evening shifts 7a.m.-7p.m., 36 hours weekly with rotating weekends. This position supports two units - Adult Co-Occurring Disorders Unit The Co-Occurring Disorders Unit is a safe and welcoming inpatient unit that is specially designed for the treatment of adults ages 18 to 65 who are experiencing more than one mental health condition. The individuals could be experiencing multiple psychiatric issues, which may include a substance use disorder. Many are experiencing recurring problems, triggered by stressful situations, life problems, and more. No matter how individuals come into our care, we help individuals safely get through this period of crisis and begin (or continue) their journey towards recovery. We are a short term psychiatric inpatient unit; we are not a rehabilitation facility, but are a starting point in the process of recovery. Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit The Crisis Stabilization Unit at Sheppard Pratt’s Towson campus is a safe and welcoming 22-bed inpatient unit that is specially designed for the treatment of adults with a mental illness. Individuals generally come to our unit for care after experiencing suicidal ideation, a suicide attempt, severe anxiety, or generally unsafe behavior. In general, we treat individuals who are experiencing one or more of the following disorders: major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder, a personality disorder, a dissociative disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. As a Staff Nurse you will: Perform a full range of professional psychiatric nursing services, including assessing, planning, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with team treatment plans. Administer medical treatment as prescribed by physician. Teach and provide psychosocial support to patients and their families. Maintains competency with all emergency operational procedures, and initiates CPR and emergency measures, as needed. Acts as scrub technologist to assist the physician during procedure as needed, maintaining a sterile technique. Assists with patient workflow by transporting patients as needed. Performs IV insertion as per physician orders. Performs additional tasks as designated by Physician, practicing in compliance with state regulations. Inspects operation of all facility equipment and reports malfunctions, and maintenance needs to ensure the safe and effective operation of all vascular access equipment. Inspects operation of all facility operating systems, including temperature checks in appropriate areas and physical structure of the facility and reports any issues to the Facility Manager. Ensures a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the vascular access facility at all times. Ensures all blood spills are immediately addressed according to the organization/FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
