Job Description Clinical nurse leader for a program or area of nursing practice. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of focus, such as patient / family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization / system. Typically partners with the nurse manager in leading the nursing clinical practice area. This is the journey level for an advanced practice clinical nurse specialist. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $225,253 - $253,629 (Annual Rate). Qualifications Required qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in hematology/oncology. In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family educational consulting and resources. Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution. Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required. Advanced skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner. Documents these communications. • Follows established standards for point of service technology, documentation and synchronization. • Submits weekly visit schedule of assigned patients. Collaborates with Clinical Team Manager to address scheduling needs. • Performs re-certifications, resumption of care, transfers and discharges as requested by the assigned Clinical Team Manager. Completes and submits all related documentation. • Attends and actively participates in the clinical team multidisciplinary patient conference. • Demonstrates established clinical competencies. • Participates in agency sponsored in-service education. • Participates in quality improvement activities. • Assists in development of agency protocols, procedures and policies as requested. • Assesses, develops, organizes and delivers teaching materials for assigned home care patients as appropriate. Position Summary Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height Show patients to examination rooms, procedure rooms or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, right drug and noting expiration date Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care instructions and physician’s instructions to patients Help physician examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures Under physician direction, authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies Prepare and clean exam rooms and medical equipment in between each patient and at the end of the day Assist physician with surgical procedure while maintaining sterile field Assess the patient’s condition throughout the exam, procedure or surgery according to the facility’s policies and notify physician and RN of any indication of distress Correctly disposes of infection waste and bio hazard materials Schedule appointments for patients Change dressings on wound Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission Inventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies and equipment while keeping the room stocked Performs accurate documentation of all procedures in a timely manner Assist physicians in patient, employee, or visitor medical emergencies and ensure proper documentation per facility’s policy Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure all equipment is in proper working order Adheres to all policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service Performs other duties as needed Required Qualification (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) Education/Training High school diploma or equivalent Certified Medical Assistant CPR Additional Skills Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and teammate support needs Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving Basic to intermediate computer operation Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines Additional Knowledge/Skills 2+ years experience in a medical setting preferred Dermatology experience a plus High level of emotional and professional maturity and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and trust, navigate and flex to varied personalities and communications styles Unquestionable work ethic, personal integrity, and honesty Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environment MUST HAVE FLEXIBILITY TO WORK ON SATURDAYS Benefits Berman Skin Institute believes our people are the secret to our success, and we work to create an environment where our people are appreciated, engaged, supported and rewarded.
