Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides nursing care and performs nursing procedures. A Licensed Vocational Nurse functions under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Licensed Vocational Nurse, (LVN) provides nursing care to patients within the LVN scope of practice as delegated by the Registered Nurse, (RN). The LVN performs tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, assisting with patient hygiene, and documenting patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and in accordance with the LVN scope of practice. Responsibilities include directing unlicensed employee activity, collecting patient information, performing focused patient assessments, assisting the RN in planning and implementing interventions/MD orders, assisting the RN with teaching patients/family, and evaluating the care rendered according to the LVN scope of practice. The LVN must effectively communicate and document data relevant to the care of the patient. The LVN utilizes knowledge of patient age, cultural diversity, and psychosocial and/or spiritual needs into the patient’s care to support the RN and the nursing process. The LVN collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcome.
