The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (“APRN”) delivers patient-family centered care in a culturally competent and compassionate manner, utilizing and promoting evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific patient care. The APRN provides and directs hands-on care to patients, practicing within the Scope of Practice of the Florida Board of Nursing requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures. Within this role, the APRN performs all steps of the care process and monitors the quality of care provided. The APRN demonstrates expertise and mastery towards patient care, providing care within the philosophy, mission, and objectives of the health system. The APRN delivers care that supports the UHealth mission to be a state-of-the-art academic medical center by participating in transforming patient care through innovative research. Initiates and leads the development of policies, procedures, protocols standards of care; examines and questions treatment to determine if they are within best practice. Teaching and Coaching: Patient and Staff Teaching Assesses a patient's and family's learning needs and readiness to learn. Teaches needed information for self-care and illness management and prevention. Adjusts information and expectations based on responses from patient, developmental levels, physiological and psychological condition, and cultural variations while addressing and meeting thenneeds of any language barriers that may be present. Professional Practice Evaluation Evaluates Advanced practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Participates in shared governance, following the ANA Code of Ethics to elevate the professional, integrating the professional practice model and relationship- based care, delivery model into their practice. Completes history, perform physical examination, review medical records and laboratory reports, interprets diagnostic tests, formulate risk assessment, completes progress notes, and plan for surgery and/or post operative care in conjunction with supervising physician/anesthesiologist, and document in electronic medical record (Epic/UChart) Works as part of the interdisciplinary team to execute these daily plans, and acts as a liaison between Nursing and Surgical services to ensure proper follow-through on all patients Provides education to nursing, patients & family on wound care / drain care or removal / tracheostomy tube care or change / fe eding tube care/line care or change as part of the daily post operative care to facilitate transition to home care. Participates in the quality control program while providing continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and/or service. See consultations in the inpatient unit/Emergency room as needed to facilitate efficient care and disposition to reduce ED LOS. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Team Manager functions as a clinical leader and clinical team member delivering care to a panel of patients for whom they have responsibility for the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of care related outcomes. Ensure compliance with patients’ discharge and/or transfer process and emergency management protocols. Develop processes to ensure availability of nursing equipment and supplies. Promote professional growth opportunities to improve staff retention. Financial Management: Responsible for capital and operational budget planning and budgetary compliance. Responsible for timely and accurate data collection of patient volumes, unit expenses, unit revenue, performance improvement information, patient satisfaction, and other pertinent information that demonstrates the operations of the unit(s). Reconciles expense receipts with budget report to ensure accuracy. Maintains appropriate records of employee attendance, tardiness, and non-productive time such as sick and vacation time, administrative leave, and Leave of Absence. Maintains records and systematic management of inventory such as biomedical equipment, capital equipment, supplies, and miscellaneous computer hardware. Patient and Patient Family Education: Assures nursing staff assess patient and family educational needs. Assures staff receives adequate education regarding a variety of disease processes, therapies, new protocols, new drugs and technology adoption. Assists the staff to utilize and/or adapt teaching protocols to set goals for the individual patient/family teaching plan. Provides/Reinforces New Patient/New Treatment Teaching. Staff Competency, Education, and Performance Evaluation: Assures all staff receive a formal orientation plan and preceptor in coordination with nurse educators and evaluates effectiveness of the clinical orientation. Department Specific Functions Examination of Glaucoma Patients includes, but not limited to the following: 1. Eliciting and recording chief complaint and interval history. 2. Eliciting and recording patient and family medical history. 3. Measurement of visual acuity at a distance and near. 4. Lensometry: measurement of the optical characteristics of spectacle lenses with the lensometer and/or auto lensometer. 5. Retinoscopy 6. Refraction: using phoropter, auto refractor, and trial frame at distance and near. 7. Confrontation visual fields and Amsler grid testing. 8. Pupillary evaluation. 9. Central corneal thickness measurements using portable handheld pachymeter. 10. Intraocular pressure assessment: a. Goldmann applanation tonometry b. Handheld electronic tonometry c. Rebound tonometry 11. Administering visual fields examination: a. Confrontation visual field b. Humphrey visual field c. Portable head mounted visual field 12. Assist physician with patient care (monitoring vitals and assist if patient distress) during office-based procedures: a. Laser procedures: capsulotomy, trabeculoplasty, iridotomy b. Minor slit lamp procedures: suture removal, bleb needling 13. Administration of ocular imaging including OCT (optical coherence tomography) and ocular photography (slit lamp, fundus and external photography). 14. Interpretation of glaucoma testing including visual field, OCT, and photographs. 15. Insertion and removal of hard, soft and contact lenses, including those used for bandage of the cornea. 16. Administration of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents. 17. Binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy. 18. Observe refractive abnormalities and ocular disease. 19. Prescription of eyeglasses, contact lenses, and low vision aids. 20. Examining patients of all ages, including children and the elderly.
