Summary The Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology is seeking a qualified candidate for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position in an inpatient hematology role at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. This position is open to either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). The APP will provide medical care to patients with hematologic disorders in the inpatient setting under the direction of a supervising physician. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate clinical excellence, scholarly enthusiasm, and a track record of high-quality clinical performance. Job Purpose The Inpatient Hematology APP will provide advanced clinical care for hospitalized patients with hematologic disorders in collaboration with attending hematologists, hematology-oncology fellows, and the multidisciplinary inpatient care team. Core responsibilities include managing admissions, performing daily clinical assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, coordinating inpatient care, and discharge planning. The APP will work closely with nursing staff, outpatient hematology APPs, care navigators, and ancillary services to ensure safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care throughout hospitalization, including coordination of complex discharges. The role includes participation in daily inpatient rounds, weekly intake meetings, and monthly hematology tumor boards. As appropriate to training, credentialing, and institutional scope of practice, the APP may also have the opportunity to perform hematology-related procedures, including bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures with intrathecal treatment administration. Job Duties Obtain detailed patient histories and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with patient health concerns. Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in accordance with scope of practice and institutional protocols. Monitor and ensure accuracy and completeness of patient medical records. Provide follow-up and ongoing inpatient care in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Job Duties Primary responsibilities include inpatient care of thoracic surgery patients in coordination with attending physician and resident physician teams. This will include thorough pre-round chart review, engagement in collaborative rounds with attending physicians as well as independent rounding, documentation of clinical decision-making and treatment plans, coordination and execution of the day’s care plan, including wound management and other procedural interventions as needed, and frequent follow up on pt progress and testing to ensure patients are progressing through their plan of care. Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Prepares cardiac clearance letters to referring physicians, for transplant and pre-operative clearance. Prescribes medications in accordance with prescriptive authority granted by the Texas Medical Board/Board of Nurse Examiners. Maintains professional certification as dictated by the Texas Medical Board/Board of Nurse Examiners. Follows latest ACC and AHA guidelines as protocol and standard of care which shall be defined to promote the exercise of professional judgment by the NP/PA commensurate with his/her education and experience. Summary The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is recruiting Inpatient Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Advanced Practice Providers to work in the inpatient setting. Scope of practice: Covers inpatient hematology & oncology patients for either 8,10, or 12 hour shifts during the daytime. Inpatient teams included are Leukemia/Lymphoma/Histiocytosis, Solid Tumor/Neuro Oncology/Vascular, and Hematology consults. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team including an Attending Hematologist or Oncologist to provide care for current and new inpatients on the acute care floor. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds including medical, nursing, and pharmacy personnel to provide optimal patient care. Provides all patient care for assigned patients including but not limited to daily rounding/notes, calling consults, all order writing including chemotherapy, completing admission and discharge planning and paperwork. This includes coordination of care, consenting, and arranging follow up appointments/procedures. Ensures appropriate sign-out of patients under their care. Job Purpose Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
