Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) – Wound Care is responsible for providing comprehensive wound, skin, ostomy, continence, and specialty tube care services for patients across the hospital. The RN collaborates closely with the Wound Care Nurse Practitioner, physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to promote evidence-based wound care practices, pressure injury prevention, optimal patient outcomes, and exceptional patient experiences. The RN serves as a clinical resource and educator for wound care management, skin integrity initiatives, pressure injury prevention, and best practices while supporting quality improvement activities, regulatory compliance, and organizational goals. Job Details Essential Responsibilities • Participates in a patient-focused team approach of providing direct and collaborative health care designed to promote and restore optimal health across the lifespan. • Utilizes all components of the nursing process in providing care that reflects an understanding of individual cultural and religious diversities, patient needs, and patient rights. • Performs comprehensive wound, skin, ostomy, continence, and specialty tube assessments for hospitalized patients. • Assists in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized wound care treatment plans in collaboration with the Wound Care Nurse Practitioner, physicians, and interdisciplinary team. • Provides evidence-based wound care interventions including dressing selection, compression therapy, Unna boot application, negative pressure wound therapy, and other advanced wound care modalities as appropriate. • Monitors wound healing progress and evaluates treatment effectiveness, communicating findings and recommendations to the care team. • Assists with inpatient wound care consultations, follow-up assessments, and implementation of treatment recommendations. • Serves as a resource for wound care management, pressure injury prevention, skin integrity initiatives, and evidence-based wound care practices throughout the organization. • Participates in pressure injury prevention rounds, prevalence studies, skin integrity surveillance, and quality improvement activities. • Provides education and support to patients, families, and caregivers regarding wound prevention, treatment, and ongoing care needs. • Serves as a clinical educator and resource for nursing staff regarding wound assessment, pressure injury staging, prevention strategies, and treatment modalities. • Collaborates with physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, rehabilitation services, nutrition services, infection prevention, and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. • Supports wound care quality initiatives, tissue tracking activities, product evaluation, and maintenance of wound care program standards. • Assists with data collection, monitoring, and reporting of quality indicators, including hospital-acquired pressure injuries and skin integrity metrics Required Qualifications • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License and Registration. • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. • Minimum two (2) years of recent Registered Nurse experience. • Minimum one (1) year of wound care experience in an acute care hospital, wound center, rehabilitation facility, long-term care facility, or related clinical setting. • Experience with wound assessment, pressure injury staging, compression therapy, Unna boot application, and evidence-based wound care practices. Preferred Qualifications • Acute care wound care experience. • Experience with pressure injury prevention programs, skin integrity initiatives, and quality improvement activities. • Experience with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), specialty support surfaces, and advanced wound care modalities. • Previous experience participating in prevalence studies, regulatory readiness activities, and performance improvement initiatives. Certification Requirements • Wound Care Certification (WOCN, CWOCN, CWON, WCC, or equivalent) preferred upon hire. • Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (WOCN) Certification required within one (1) year of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of wound etiology, wound healing processes, pressure injury prevention, and evidence-based wound care practices. • Ability to function as a clinical resource and educator. • Proficiency with electronic medical record documentation systems. Salary Range USD $55.13 - USD $64.36 /Hr.
