PRN Registered Nurse - Recovery | Bel Aire Recovery Center | Bel Aire, Kansas About the Job: The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients. Supervising care treatment and services of patient care provided by LPNs, CNAs and other staff on assigned unit and shift. Developing, implementing, and evaluating an individual plan of care for each client. Assessment and re-assessment of patients. Communicating appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team. Reporting client concerns and changes in condition to supervisor and/or physician in a timely manner. Roles and Responsibilities: Provides and coordinates care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of client, develops and implements nursing care plans, maintains medical records and educates clients and their families about various physical and behavioral health conditions while ensuring client safety at all times. Assesses client’s status on an ongoing basis and pertinent information gathered is documented. Ensures nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and initial treatment plan is completed upon admission. Takes physician’s orders (verbal or via telephone) accurately and documents appropriately; transcribes and reviews physician’s orders. Ensures physician’s orders are legible if taken verbally and transcribed appropriately per policy and procedure. Accurately administers medications per ordered note and documents accurate count of controlled substance. Adjusts medications under provider’s supervision as needed; monitors lab results to validate medication compliance. Notifies physician of significant changes in status such as difficulties with detox, medical emergency or change in medical status regarding response to medications, etc. Supervises self-administration of medications using safety initiative of using two means of client identification: documents and reports effects of scheduled and PRN medications. Maintains accountability of administration, recording, control and security of medications, including narcotics. Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed. Confers regularly with treatment team (e.g., nurses, therapists, program managers, physician) regarding client care. Attends and participates in the unit activities such as therapy groups, family meetings as appropriate, staffing, unit meetings, etc. Provides education/explanation to clients, families, and co-workers regarding medication usage/maintenance, common side effects, client's rights, as well as other topics necessary for optimal client care. Monitors client acuity, census, staffing needs, and makes arrangements for coverage as needed, following established guidelines. Assures thorough, accurate documentation is completed for all clients on each shift and client assignment sheets are completed daily and tasks are carried out as assigned. Gives thorough report to oncoming staff, supervisors, and physician. Provides coverage in emergency services as needed. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing. One or more years’ nursing experience within clinical area of service provided by facility preferred. Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred. LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable. Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred. Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are: Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding status and medical history. Collects and records nursing assessment and interventions. Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider and takes appropriate action based on standard or verbal orders. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Provides psychosocial support to patients and families. Maintains patient confidentiality. Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Assures pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Maintains accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided. Applies knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture. Maintains work environment Restocks the supply area as needed. Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen. Maintains all disinfection protocols. Maintains equipment according to quality control standards. Facilitates clinical operations and patient care Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart. Assists physician with exams and procedures. Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms. Facilitates and schedules consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients. Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care. Assist patients in locating available community resources. Other duties as assigned. Inter professional collaboration. Assist and collaborate with clinical research. Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants. Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. Participates in professional development activities and maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities. Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage. Attends required, applicable meetings. Keeps current licensure and requirements for the same including continuing medical education. Remains current on all compliance requirements and in part, demonstrates knowledge of Adheres to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws and guidelines with regards to patient’s records and information. Manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high dose therapy, stem cell rescue and rehabilitation following rescue in collaboration with transplant physician and/ supervisor. Reports data to company for Transplant related registries and appropriate bodies, International Autologous and Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries. Incorporates company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice as assigned. * Specialty Specific Responsibilities For Primary Nurses assigned to a Physician, Additional Responsibilities Include: Manages medication refill requests from pharmacies, documenting details in patient charts. Advocate for patients. Support their empowerment in the care process. Facilitates referrals as part of the care plan, treatment course, or advance care planning, in collaboration with scheduling teams, and as directed by a provider. Acts as the patient liaison between healthcare providers and patients. Assist patients in accessing community resources as needed. Assumes additional duties as assigned, including infusion room nursing coverage. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Qualifications The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications: Education and or Experience: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
