Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a RPN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the infusion, medical oncology, and radiation oncology departments at the Round Rock North, Georgetown East, and Harker Heights locations . This PRN position supports a clinic with regular hours of Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays. We are looking for someone who can work at least 24 hours per month. This position can be a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience. What does the PRN Registered Nurse (RN) do? Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities: Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Provides psychosocial support to patients and families. Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Facilitates clinical operations and patient care. Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart. Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. Assist patients in locating available community resources. Qualifications The ideal candidate for the PRN Registered Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience: Level 1: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology/infusion. IV Skills preferred. ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification, OCN certification and/or oncology experience preferred. Level 2 (in addition to level 1 requirements): 3-5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred. Level Sr (in addition to level 1 and 2 requirements): Five years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred. Why the ED Boarder RN Role? This unique position supports admitted patients who remain in the Emergency Department while awaiting an inpatient bed assignment. These patients have been evaluated and admitted by the appropriate inpatient service and require continued acute care nursing management until transfer to their assigned unit. This role does not provide care for active Emergency Department patients. Instead, the Boarder RN focuses exclusively on acute care (non-ICU) level admitted patients boarding in the ED, ensuring continuity of care, safety, and patient experience during this transition period. What Makes This Role Unique? Continuity of Care: Provides inpatient-focused nursing care to admitted patients while awaiting room placement on an acute care unit. Patient Advocacy: Ensures appropriate monitoring, medication administration, documentation, and communication with admitting services, consults, dietary, etc. Reduced ED Throughput Pressure: Does not carry an active ED assignment, allowing focused, high-quality care for boarding patients. Collaborative Practice: Works closely with ED physicians, hospitalists, specialists, case management, inpatient nursing teams, ancillary areas, and consultants. Flexible Skill Utilization: When ED census is low, RNs will float to other acute care inpatient units within the hospital to support staffing needs (no floating outside of the hospital).
