Position Responsibilities: · Maintains annual clinical competence in care of surgical patients, administration of vasoactive medications, and telemetry-monitored patients. · Assesses clinical and diagnostic data of the population served. · Monitors patient hemodynamic response to interdisciplinary plan of care and intervenes appropriately. · Performs Tracheostomy care according to hospital policy and procedure. · Provides individualized teaching to patients/family requiring surgical procedures, telemetry monitoring, and cardiovascular invasive procedure. · Interprets ABG results and intervenes appropriately. · Assists physician with cardioversion and management of cardiac arrhythmias. · Assesses and monitors patients receiving PCA or epidural medication for pain management. · Assess, monitor, and document patient response to chest tube management. · Troubleshoots unit specific equipment. · Transport patient via cardiac monitor and emergency drugs to and from diagnostic testing areas. · Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family. Assessment of chief complaint and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to unit. · Obtains and documents a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop an interdisciplinary plan of care within eight hours of admission. · Performs and documents an accurate system assessment at the beginning of each shift. Reports abnormal findings immediately to physician. · Responds to Diagnostic Data and initiates appropriate action or intervention. · Assesses patient education needs upon admission and daily thereafter. · Assesses psychosocial needs specific to patient’s age, growth and development. · Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs, evidenced by the completion of assigned duties within shift. · Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and interdisciplinary plan of care. · Performs 24-hour chart at the beginning of each shift. · Prepares intravenous solutions using aseptic techniques. · Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergencies. · Administers, observes, and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy. · Administers medications within 30 minutes of scheduled time, observes and documents effectiveness, recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately. · Provides individualized instructions each shift to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care. · Demonstrates safe and correct use of unit specific equipment. · Ensures that each patient’s general hygiene needs are met daily. · Performs pre-operative and post-operative care and instructions for each assigned surgical patient during shift. · Adheres to standard precautions including hand hygiene guidelines at all times. · Documents specific patient valuables and arranges appropriate storage. · Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. · Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. · Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy. · Administers internal feeding via ng tube, gastrostomy tube and/or jejunostomy tube. · Performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching · Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. · Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. · Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes. · Evaluates and documents patient’s progress towards established goals. · All other tasks as related to the positions duties. Position Responsibilities: · Adheres to and complies with all regulatory standards globally to profession and specific to unit. · Understands all new physician orders must be implemented within two hours of initiation for routine and within 30 minutes or less for stat. · Understands and is able to prepare patient for invasive and / or non invasive medical procedures ensuring universal protocol compliance. · Understands and is able to administer medication per physicians orders adhering to the hospital approved patient identifiers, following the 5 rights of patient medication administration. · Utilizes chain of command to communicate changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions to prevent negative patient outcomes. · Maintains current licensure and annual competencies as specific to assignment, keeping written evidence on file at all times. · Ensures and understands the safety aspect of clinical alarms. · Follows Patient Safety goals as established by the department; supports effective responses to adverse and sentinel events; provides an on-going proactive approach to reduce risk; integrates patient safety as a priority into new and existing processes. · Reports incidents to supervisor and Risk Management department within required timeframe in accordance with medical center policy. Follows the completion of incident reporting policy. · Complies with current Hospital security and safety polices. · All other tasks as related to the position's duties. Qualifications: · Current/Valid Florida RN Licensure. · BLS and ACLS Certification required. · Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RN inclusive of exposure to critical care. Position Responsibilities · Prepares the OR suite appropriately to receive a new admission. · Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s surgical status. · Assists anesthesia in maintaining intake and output, checks availability of blood products and checks blood products with anesthesia before administering. Document blood administration and assures accuracy. · Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations, and appropriate usage of safety measures. · Monitors, evaluates and intervenes appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation. · Competent in application of safety positioning devices, providing ongoing observation, intervention and documentation as per hospital policy. · Maintains thorough knowledge of operation, care and handling of O.R equipment. Demonstrates ability to perform new procedures, skills and routines in specialty areas. · Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family. Assessment of chief compliant and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to procedure area. · Obtains and documents an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each procedure. · Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention. · Assesses patient education needs on admission, and psychosocial needs specific to patients age, growth, and development. · Initiates plan of care within eight hours of admission. Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs as evidence by completion of assigned duties within shift. · Performs Pre-Operative and Post-Operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift. · Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. · Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. · Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy, performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching. · Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. · Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. · Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician orders. Completes documentation of transfer summary. · All other duties as assigned. Qualifications · Current FL RN License · BLS required · CNOR preferred · Minimum of one year of experience scrubbing and circulating through various service lines.
