Patients on the Surgical Tele have health issues primarily requiring surgical interventions but there is also a subset of medical diagnoses. Diagnoses include but are not limited to the treatment for bowel obstruction, GI bleed, Cancers in need of surgical intervention, traumatic injuries, general surgery populations as well as medical diagnoses of sepsis, Cardiac telemetry needs, renal failure, and diabetic emergencies. Strong collaboration and teamwork between physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, therapy, case management and social work is encouraged to optimize patient care. The TIMC unit cares for patients with DKA/HHS without hemodynamic instability or coma, transplant patients excluding that meet ICU level of care, patients with hypothermia requiring Bair hugger without evidence of hemodynamic instability and any hemodynamically stable patient requiring frequent neurologic, pulmonary, or cardiac monitoring above floor capabilities.
