Clinical Nurse Short Stay Unit Part-time, 12 hour shifts (Day/Night rotation) The Short Stay Unit is a 12 bed observation unit here at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. The average stay is one overnight with the possibility of a second when indicated and we have a 4 to 1 patient to nurse ratio. We care for every adult population here at Dartmouth-Hitchcock with an emphasis on postsurgical care. Our specialty areas include cardiology, urology, oncology, gynecology, orthopedics and much more. This unit provides the new nurse ample opportunities to hone their fundamental nursing skills while utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, organize, and provide the best possible patient care. This is a fast paced unit that works collaboratively with teamwork at the forefront to prepare patients for a timely and successful discharge to home. Currently this unit opens on Mondays at 7:00 am and closes on Saturdays at 7:00 pm. A typical day we care for 50-70 patients. We also provide post anesthesia recovery care for those patients being discharged home the “same day” as their procedure. On the main unit we serve patients from 15 years through adulthood and in our separate pedi periop program we care for patients 14 and under. Within our department is a regional block program where patients receive sedation by our moderate sedation trained nurses while being administered a preoperative block before going into the OR for most commonly a joint replacement. Preadmission Services that utilize our program include but are not limited to orthopedics, gynecology, plastics, ENT, vascular, urology, radiology, cardiology and thoracic surgery. We are looking for experienced nurses that are team players and want to work in a busy 34 bed Same Day Surgery Program (SDP). Shifts are 10 hours between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:30 pm. Nurses must have current acute care hospital experience. Critical Care experience and IV skills are a plus. Overview Our Birthing Pavilion is a 21-room, 24-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) unit. We average approximately 1300 deliveries each year. Approximately fifty-five percent of our patients are high-risk and are part of our Maternal Fetal Medicine service. We receive transports from all of New Hampshire, Southern Vermont, and occasionally Maine. We have a robust midwifery service along with a generalist physician service. We provide antepartum care, intrapartum care, postpartum care, normal newborn care, and focus care newborn care. We have a two-bed triage room in which we triage all of our own patients. Our unit includes two operating rooms (ORs) in which everyone is trained in perioperative care, i.e. circulating and scribing in the OR, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) services. We collaborate with many units in the organization including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiovascular Critical Care (CVCC), and the Main Operating Room to provide highly specialized care to our pregnant and postpartum patients. The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN or NICU) is next door to us and we have a very close relationship with their team. This position is FT, 3x12hr rotating shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a) across all 7 days and holidays. Overview Our Academic Medical Center is expanding to meet the needs of our rural New England region's pediatric patients with inpatient psychiatric care needs. The Inpatient Adolescent Med Psychiatric Care Unit opened in Spring 2025.
